MIDI routing struggle (BPM mess)

Post by Trancient »

Hi folks,
I'm into a dilemma.
I tried to connect some machines via MIDI as follows:

midi out from the EMX (master, internal clock) into the midi in of the ESX (slave, clock signal taken from the EMX), then midi out from the ESX to the midi in of the KP3 (external clock).
In this chain EMX and ESX are perfectly in sync, but KP3 is not. Indeed, when I try in example some delay effect on it, it does not sound at the proper tempo.

another unsuccessful chain:

midi out from the EMX (master, internal clock) into the midi in of the MicrokorgXL (slave), and midi thru from the EMX into the midi in of the KP3. (there's also the midi out from the MicrokorgXL into the midi in of the EMX, so they're mutually linked).
And the prolem is the same: the KP3 "does not understand" the tempo and it is always wrong. At the moment the KP3 is set to internal clock and I sync it manually by tapping. But it's not that comfortable.

how can I set all the 3 machines in sync without adjusting the BPM manually?

seems like you've misunderstood what MIDI THRU does

try connecting the ESX Thru to the KP3, that will send the EMX clock to the ESX, and it will be passed through the ESX to the KP3

now you're using midi thru, but using it wrong. out from the emx, in to the MK XL, then from the MK XL's Thru to the KP3

the clock signals will go from the EMX, to the MK XL, and through to the KP3

that doesn't change the fact you were using the EMX's THRU wrong
