Just bought brand new Korg NanoPad and have tried to install but it does not seem to be recognised. Windows XP. HP notebook.

yes I have installed the Korg Midi USB driver: ver 1.13.1.4 released 9/11/2010

and the Korg Kontrol Editor Application

The Hardware appears to be working, and getting power - the red LEDs are working and I can step through the Scenes on the device. - it is plugged in directly not via a USB-HUB.

When I a run the Korg Kontrol Editor Application it simply says "Not Connected".

Cubase SX3, Ableton, Midi OX do not show the Korg as a MIDI Device.

However Windows XP device manager says that "This device is functioning Correctly" the Windows Control Panel shows the Korg MIDI-USB driver.

When I swap to a different USB port then Windows seems to re-install the driver correctly - I say "Continue Anyway" to that Pop Up Box. then OK on the next pop-up box. I've tried then re-starting then running Cubase SX3 etc and still no joy.

the website says that the driver is for Vista / Win 7 ? but I can't see an Older driver to download - is this XP the problem?

Other Midi devices installed are: RME Hammerfall Multiface, M-Audio Ozone, Frontier Alphatrack, Midiman MidiSport 2x2.

No Idea what the problem is.

Actually no in the Windows Device Manager I get the following under the driver info.

I think the problem is that the Nanopad is ending up with MIDI Device Number of 19 - 20. - The only way to see this is via the Uninstall Screen though:




As I"m sure I read somewhere in the Manual or online that it needs to be in MIDIDEVICE Number 0 - 9

I just can't find where I saw that.

I think this might the problem - DUPLICATE MIDI DRIVERS!

These operating systems can install a maximum of ten MIDI device drivers; after that, they fall down and say “no más!” And it’s not hard to use them up if you have lots of devices. For example, if you install a USB MIDI device driver while it’s plugged into one USB port, then plug it into a different USB port and install the driver again, you now have a duplicate driver and have used up two MIDI device drivers. The same will happen if the interface is on a PCI card, and you change its slot. The solution: Go into the registry, hunt down duplicate driver entries, and delete them.

RME has an excellent FAQ on this subject by Matthias Carstens at www.rme-audio.de/en_support_techinfo.php?page. However, it’s written more for intermediate users, so we’ll deal with the issue on a more basic level. Ready? Let’s fix it.

I had the same problem, after deleting unused MIDI devices with KORG MIDI uninstaller my nanpPad 2 works!
Is this anywhere in the manual? If not it should be!
Also driver should recognize that nanoPad is not connected to the correct MIDI port and warn/allow to change it!

A fix that worked for me.

Remove one of the first 9 midi drivers before plugging in the nano:

1. Unplug the nano

2. Use the Uninstaller to remove one of the first 9 drivers. You have to uncheck the checkbox under "Options" in the uninstaller.

3. Use the Uninstaller to also remove all nano midi drivers.
(each time you plug in the nano in a new usb port, you get a new driver)

4. plug in the device. It will select the first free driver position, i.e. the position you removed in step 2.

Remaining problem:
If you plug the nano into another port you have to repeat the above steps.

Worked for me (but i had to proactivly reinstall the device)


Now the device is recognized - but my PADS are NOT WORKING ..
