From what we've seen, the stock PCM sounds on the Kronos are:
Seemingly good for instrumentalists...

... but, is there anything specifically in the way of dance sounds/waveforms, in quantity?

I understand there's the AL-1 and MS20 and the like, but wondered if there are any sampled stock dance waveforms from other sources in good quantity, or whether you would have to sample, synthesize and import literally everything.

Well, what's the purpose of sampling analogue waveforms (including aliasing etc) when you have analogue modeling engines which emulate the waves' behaviour, interaction, phase cancelation, etc ?

Once a synt has 3 or 4 analogue models, sample memory is better allocated to un-synthesizable sounds.

Not that I terribly love "ahhhh ohhhh" samples, but they can't be emulated by analogue.

A sampled "25% pulse" on the other hand is usually lame.

It if steals rom to useful (unreplaceable) samples, it's a net loss.

Sampled analogue waveforms made sense on the m3, if you didn't install the radias exb, but agter getting the radias, the resident eds "prophet sinc" patches sounded worthless.

And we know that we need more bassoon emulations, as for the wise words of Prof. S. Patel

Hi Timo,

Kronos does have a large collection of sampled electronic waveforms. The sample collections you posted are expansion libraries. HD-1 comes with another collection of waveform data that is always loaded, and should keep you busy for quite a while. You'll also probably get a lot of mileage out of HD-1's Wave Sequencing functionality.

FWIW, there's often a desirable difference in feel between sampled synth sounds and "live" synth sounds. Basically, when using sampled synth sounds you are deliberately going for consistency and/or the machine-gun effect. Sampled synth sounds can definitely have a vibe that you can't really get from the original synth.

I believe there might be less Dance/Trance waveforms only due to its
dedicated engines for that (which actually makes me happy).

i was wondering about this myself , i had the karma with a exb04 dance extreme rom which has some beautifull rhodes piano chord waveforms

Does anyone know if they got ported to the Hd1 at all ?

You can download the OASYS Voice Name List (VNL) here:

This includes lists of all the multisamples in the OASYS, all of which are also present in the KRONOS. Among other things, there are hundreds of synth samples, including all of the Prophet VS tables, as well as a bunch of hits.

Re electric piano chords: you can also make chords out of any sound using chord mode.

These expansion libraries are going to be available for Kronos as additional add-ons? If so, we'll get them off the Korg website?

No, they already come with Kronos, they are pre-installed on Kronos' internal SSD.

Also a big concern for me. As the style I do is HipHop/Dance/Trance/World/NewAge/Dubstep/GlitchHop/Industrial/ ...etc

I was pretty disappointed when I read the External sounds and none had an Electronic idea to them.
Maybe future updates will bring this?
I'm also afraid that if I sell my M3 for the Kronos...how much will I miss the Radias?

Will you miss out on good electronic sounds? Will you miss your radias? You will not lose out on electric sounds as stated before. You have 3 well designed analog modeling synths. If you do not like a ms-20 AL-1, or the Polysix then you may miss your radias. Some times we get used to using something and the new product maybe better spec wise but, knowing your gear may get you further then the latest thing. Imagine learning Kronos. The tools you have may out do your radias. I love my M3 and created many great patches but, I would love to get kronos. There is only one reason why I will not run and get it right away. No cue list. That is a deal breaker for me.

I don't think the Radias can be replaced. I wouldn't doubt that AL-1 and the other synth models will give me so much power that I'll get lost programming for days. But a few of my fave patches on my Radias have some interesting timbres, and I bet AL-1 can do them well, but perhaps not perfectly.

Radias is just a shade lighter and brighter than other synths, in the vein of ARP and Roland, but with those unique parameters it has, it culminates in a synth I'm never going to let go of.
