dump a(ll) drum kit(s) on external device
The M3 only has 4 individual outputs and i need at least 8 for multitrack recording, so i want to dump a(ll the) drum kit(s) from the Korg m3 to MPC 2500 because i need to record the drums seperately so i always need at least 5 ind. outs only for the drums. (setup is Korg M3 (4 ind. outs) with midi to Akai MPC 2500 (8 ind. outs) and both to Akai DPS 16 track recorder)
The Korg menu is clear for midi dump but the mpc is not responding, so i think i need to make a dump from the korg to a usb stick or my computer so i can put the data on the mpc's flash card.
Can someone help me with this ?

I do not think you can just "dump" M3 drumkits to Akai sampler and play them on the fly. This requires complex sampling/resampling and setup process.
Easier should be use drums in M3 (if you want use M3 drums) and use all 6 outputs (you can route drumkit instruments or groups of instruments to all 4 outs + use L and R channel panning kit instruments as needed).
If you need more precise routing then you need record them one after another, but in most cases 6 channels should be OK for drums.

If you are not happy with final mix that you can do in M3 itself, then you need record tracks to external recorder in two or more turns, routing each time desired tracks to separate outs.doedat wrote:Yes, for only drums this works offcourse, but i want to play all sounds in the song like bass, piano, strings etc. etc. with the M3 on a different ind. out. That would be at least 3 or 4 extra ind. outs i need.
I am afraid that there is no easy way.doedat wrote:There is no possible way to copy the drumkits other than sample/ record ?

Firewire does not add channels, it allows just get these (1,2,3,4,L,R) 6 channels into your computer digitally.vicz wrote:Maybe with the firewire card, if you can find one.

Yes, recording in more turns would be the solution with the least work on short term, however record each sample for the long term would be nice but much much work.
I do not understand that basicly these kind of hardware (that also cost a few bucks) are restricted in such way that it can't be used like this..
There must be a solution for this otherwise you can find me sampling in the next 10 weeks, and also put them in order to programs in the mpc, i get already sick only thinking of it ..

"Never try to teach a pig to whistle - it frustrates you and annoy's the pig."
Don't blame the M3. It's a keyboard, which rarely has to have more than two (stereo) outs to fulfill most of the tasks it is used for. As a drum machine, yes, it sucks.
I know I've seen "sounds of the..." sample CD's on E-Bay, which, if they're worth anything, already have the individual drums sampled. Maybe firing up the MPC is what you need to do, after all.
The other (partial) solution is to do a reality check - if you are processing mostly snare and bass drum individually, and toms as a group, and other drums as a group, then 4 ind. outs could conceivably be enough to work with.
I'm not sure of the M3's specifications, but I suspect that unless you're also writing drum tracks as 1 drum per track you'd have a hard time splitting things out, even if you had enough individual outs.

One of the things that is most frustrating; endless time spending finding good(enough) drums or other instruments on the internet for cd's to buy, the M3 has a very good variety of (new) sounds in a touch of a button!
For good drummachine is the mpc (king of drummachines) connected and can also split the drum kits or other sounds easely. You can play the full drumset, and after recording devide each drum (sample) to a ind. out.
It is thinkable that Korg and Akai do not work together because of the competition, both they sell keyboards and drum machines, but it is unthinkable that it is not possible to get all of the sounds (samples) in the mpc, not in this level of quality products. And it is not that the buyer is not intitled to fully use the equipment..
Please help me, there must be someone to know (an easy way) to do this..
