I used to own an Sy35 which I thought was poor overall :(had a good sitar sound though),
If you know just wanted to ask about the SY55, SY77, SY85 and SY99.(or the rack versions if there is one for all of them) what is the main differences between them? Which is the best of those soundset wise?
Presumably they must all be much better than the Sy22 and Sy35?
Yeh, the 22 and later 35 certainly aren't as powerful (imho, they were quite noisy)
The biggest boon of the 22/35 was the ability to record vector movements into your presets - V COOL. (something you can't do in the "meatier" models) And you could edit them to make some nice ambient sounds.
The TG33 was a table-top version, although I did see a few people build rack plates for them.
1 part FM & 1 part AWM2 Both 16 note poly but 8 part multi-timbral.
The SY35 had more sampled waveforms (considerably expanded)
The SY55 & TG55 (now a 1u rackmount) - both 16 note polyphony & 16 part multi-timbral. 2 x the oscillators too.
SY55 had a built in sequencer.
Main other difference was 2x multi-timbral. Still using AWM & FM.

SY77 - 24 note polyphony /16 part multi=timbral
6 oscillators
2 fx units
Built in sequencer.
TG77 - 3U rack without disk drive and sequencer.

SY99 - Same as SY77 (in essence), but with 76 note keyboard. Onboard sample ram, 8 more notes polyphony, better effects and more waveforms. No rackmount

SY85 - AWM2 workstation with lots of ROM sounds.
Letterbox editing window
MOre polyphony etc
Didn't have the FM "sound" of the previous SYs....
Highly rated (not by me though, FWIW!!)

TG500 is the closest to a rack IIRC.

Soundset-wise, kinda depends on whether you want fm-sound or not.....
Hope this helps
