Here is an attempt at a Chiptune piece.

I've just been exploring genres for fun lately. Trying to get well rounded.

I'm all for experimenting artistically especially when it's done well and fun to listen to as this is. Move over Daft Punk I'd say, not that this is their style, but this is even better than many of their songs which can often be long and monotonous. I just love how you don't know what sounds will hit next and some just come exploding seemingly from nowhere but like lazer lights at an arcade or something. You are wise to experiment with styles. It can be too easy to fit in a comfortable box and stay there. I do like a cd where each song has somewhat of a different vibe or groove while still showing the taste and style of the artists.

I think this is really cool. Great sounds. And I really liked where it was going towards thew end.

I think you could easily add a bit more to this. Like maybe repeating some of those measures near the end a few times, and adding a more powerful beat to it. Either some glitchy beats (give it a feel of IDM) or just a simple one. Then you could put in some soft melodies with synth strings or pads to keep the song going.

@2loose, I appreciate how Daft Punk utilizes their equipment live and what they've done to their classics artistically with the Alive mix. Saw them 3 times on that tour and even though its the same mix each time, the sound of the 4 Voyagers always blew me away.

I do my live show in a similar fashion now, with Cubase routed through the Radias and internally bussed to give access to multiple filters/effects. You inadvertently gave me the idea to add a talking mod to one of the timbres actually.

Likening my material to Daft Punk is very kind. They could be thought of as two of the forefathers of experimental electronic music and they've been a big influence on me in that regard.


@Pumkin King, I got lazy with this piece and mixed it on my laptop and headphones. After giving it a listen through the studio desk I found the kick horrendously pronounced. Try listening on a pair of regular computer monitors or a stereo with a poor low end and some of the other percussive elements may stand out more. It still wont sound glitch but it may make a difference.

I like the idea of 8-bit strings. I can't think of a song that would have an example of that off the top of my head.

Also, I am very impressed that those samples came out of garageband. Almost makes me regret uninstalling it.

And finally, Zelda is my favorite gaming series. I've played through every single installment except four swords adventures and spirit tracks.

Enjoyed it and can relate to the sound very well .., and also to Zelda ...(odd for my age ..probably...)

Anyway you have much inventiveness in your materials and ..even as an old classicist, I LOVE hearing what you are doing, even if I can't well comment on the technical aspects......
