Korg R3...Mic faulty ?

Hi there all.
I bought a R3, 6 months old from eBay and I'm not sure but I suspect there might be something wrong with the supplied mic that came with the R3. It doesn't seem to pick up the voice very well... almost like it's struggling to pick up the voice even with the input volume all the way up.
In order to get the Vocoder to kick in properly, I really need to amp up the volume of my vocal and place my mouth right up to the foam mic tip.. almost placing my mouth right over it. I find that cupping my hand over the end of the mic and singing between my fingers helps a bit.
I tried another Mic in the back of the Korg and it was much clearer. Does the above sound normal or is it possible I have a dodgy mic ? Does Korg sell a replacement if it is dodgy ? Or could it even be a dodgy XLR jack ?
Cheers
