After my previous post... is my M50 editor faulty?

Since posting about the complex problems with cubase 6 and my M50, I now wonder if the VST Editor is the problem. As a standalon, it works just fine; in Cubase, no matter what, it doesn't work properly at all. If I select a voice in SEQ mode in the editor, the virtual keyboard plays it but the physical one doesn't. Also, when I play the physical keyboard, I notice that there are always two voices being triggered in the editor though I only hear one... and if I select a voice on say, channel three, it changes the one in channel 1.
Is this something I'm doing wrong (I'm pretty new to all this) or do you think I have faulty equipment somewhere?
OS is Windows 7, service pack 1
I've tried just about every possibility I can think of... Oh, and no matter what voice I'm using when I save something, it always loads back in next time with the piano.
