Korg 01W FD User - Drive Problem

Post by EricRD »

Hi All,

I recently had the LED screen and what many call the 'Mother Board' replaced in my Korg 01W FD. The replacement is excellent!

A new problem: When I try to load up sequences from floppy disk, the Korg's Disk Drive gives the message: ERROR: Drive Not Ready

I opened up the keyboard and all connections seem to be intact, but I'm not expert at this.

Unfortunately the repair shop that replaced the 'Mother Board' is in Bangkok - me and keyboard are here in Sydney, Australia so cant just run back to the repair shop.

Any suggestions? For example, Is there a programing step the repair shop should have taken after installing the new board? Or, maybe the disk drive finally crapped out or got damaged during shipping?

Thanks - Any suggestions are greatly appreciated - Eric

Hi Eric!

First of all I must say this that I'm a new user of Korg Keyboards. I bought a PA60 for my church and the Floppy drive gives the same error messages.

I searched on the net and found out that there is something call as Floppy Drive Emulator. This emulates a USB stick into a floppy drive and you can do all that you could using the floppy drive on the keyboard. And the best part is that it is plug and play. As simple as that.

I am yet to buy that so I don't really know. But experts here can definitely help us out with regard to our problem.

Do keep me posted re the drive and I too will surely keep you posted

Check this site - http://www.virtualvillage.com/floppy-dr ... 1-095.html

Hope this is of some help to you and the other user facing the same problem

God bless.

Hi Xavier,

Thanks for your reply and cool info. I brought in an electronic wiz who determined my disk drive had died and therfore needed replacement.

I called around and found two KORG 01W FD's that somebody was willing to sell cheap. I pirated the disk drive out of one and installed it into my US Korg which is now good as new. A very lucky break because apparently these drives are no longer made or stocked. Whew!

Hey Erick,

Good for you. I'm looking forward to buy an emulator myself from the site I had quoted above. I'm trying to establish how genuine this site is and the things I can do and can't. Any Idea???

Once I get one in hand and install it I'll keep you posted so that you too can buy one for yourself. I read in a site this week that Sony, Imation & a few other manufactures are withdrawing to manufacture floppy disks and will seize to manufacturing them by the end of this year. So the stocks may last till sometime next year.

So I would advise you to get one for yourself too.

God bless you

Hi,
Am very glad I could replace my floppy drive and now want to us my time wisely to get away from dependance on it quickly as possible. Floppy disks are such an unstable and limited format to begin with, I've gotten lots of advice on how to covert my files so have lots of busy work ahead. Cheers!
