Korg KRONOS DOA

Post by NavidSyed »

so finally I got my Korg KRONOS 61 delivered today, so I plugged it in it starts booting but after 20 seconds or so message, "SYSTEM STARTUP FAILED" please disconnect any USB devices and restart, well guess what there are no USB devices connected the only thing connected is the power cable, I am very very frustrated, the horror stories I was hearing about "quality control" are indeed true?? called Korg USA they are only available from 1 pm to 5 pm EST, so lets wait for hours before I can actually turn on my new $3000 keyboard?? very frustrated

Unplug the Kronos.

Wait a few seconds - about 20?

Reinsert the power plug and make sure it fits snuggly into the power input.

Try starting again?

It may just have been a temporary power glitch.

Hope you get it sorted. And it will be under warranty so don't panic too much.

My sympathies - I can only imagine what it feels like...

I have a new keyboard on order (not a Kronos but same price) but I'd be crushed if my new one arrived DOA

In fact, when anyone posts that something's gone wrong with their OASYS, my stomach turns!!

So, I can imagine how frustrated/disappointed you are! Hope you get it sorted soon and thereafter you have trouble-free musicmaking with your K 8)

so talked to Korg support and I am being told that this is internal hardware error and need to be addressed by Korg service center and it can take weeks and to contact my dealer? so I did? now I have to pay for return shipping?? lot of my money wasted, not happy very very poor quality control from Korg on this KRONOS, never had issues with previous Korg's keyboards.. may need to think twice before buying Korg...

strange you have to pay the shipping... last year i had to return my m50 (still in warranty) back to service center for repairing and i just brought it to the nearest korg authorized shop and then they shipped it to service center without any fee for me.

anyway i understand your frustration....

The way I understand shipping on warranty is that you pay it initially. You are re-imbursed if the problem is found to be the manufacturers fault.

If it is owner induced then all costs are down to the owner.

UPDATE: talked to my dealer (super nice guy) who talked to Korg support and it seems like Korg would be paying for the return shipping however he doesn't have any more KRONOS in stock so I have to wait again for another keyboard...(hope not for months)?

So I received a new unit today thank god it was not DOA, however it is very noisy I think I am hearing the fan noise which I believe is possibly 40dBA or more and this is not in studio just noted in a quite room at night, it is constant and very annoying otherwise the built of the keyboard seems to be ok, is my unit defective? I don't want ot go through the same hassle of returning it to dealer, any thought I have Kronos 61, I can hear the constant humming from 2 feet away same noise as desktop computer makes... :(

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I pre-ordered in early Jan., got it in July and had a defective screen, and just this week found a replacement. So I can identify.

Anyway, here is a thread on the fan noise where I list a possible replacement. I'm sensitive to the noise as well. I've listed some dB measurements so you could see if your fan is similar or not. I'm going to try today to measure my new keyboard.

If I feel brave someday, I might try adding a rubber isolator to the fan mount and remeasuring.

These initial issues are indeed frustrating, but I believe they are worth working through for the people who experience them because the fundamental synthesis is so incredible.

Hang in there,

Korg Kronos 88 system startup failed

Post by salim »

I just got my 88 keys kronos. It worked fine for few days and one fine night when I tried to turn on I had the same system startup failed message.

I immediatlely contacted korg canada people. No one was available to take my call. Frustratingly, I sent an email explaining the situation got a reply back next day to tell them again what kind of message i get. i sent them again system starup failed message. So far I am still waiting for proper reply.

Meanwhile, I inserted a usb drive at the back and took the power cord off and put it back again and turned on the unit, it took it and the unit worked. I was happy that my solution work. But next night when I tried to turn on it again gave me the system startup failed message. Again I did the same procedure in about 3rd or 4th attempt it booted successfully.

However, I contacted the dealer (L&M) where I have actually bought the unit they were very kind enough to agree to replace the unit and I am allowed to keep the present unit till I get a new one which they immediately ordered and will inform me upon its arrival.

I'm sorry to hear you have a DOA. I never had one before but especially after the waiting time it must be terrible. Hope you get a replacement or fix very fast.

It did this once, correct?

As Ksynth suggested above, just power down, wait a bit, and power on again.

No it did more than once for sure ever since I bought it one week before.
I had Korg Kronos 61 keys before which worked fine and never had any proboem but i decided to to go for 88 keys. It was a sealed packed unit.

Anyway the company did send me an email to tell me to reload the factory settings which i did last night then after the unit started booting normally so far but i have to observe that this remains so in future. I still have an option to cliam new replacement if i want. :D
