New User needs help from kind People. PA500ORT Issues.

Post by MlogicZ »

Hi All,

I am a new user obviously, I own a Korg PA500ORT and I have had so many questions about this keyboard and I've been spending weeks on Google trying to find answers to my questions. I am hoping some of you kind people here can help me :(

I have several questions, please, if you have an answer for me, I would be so appreciative. One person does not have to answer all the questions, I just want to list them all in one place.

1) My pitch stick use to work perfectly, X and Y axis, but now the X-axis is not working anymore for some reason. I cannot figure out why. I'm hoping it is not broken because my keyboard is out of it's one year warranty, I've had it for about 2years now.

2) I need styles and sounds, or I guess SETS. I am in deep need of them. I work with different ethnic groups, I love all styles of music, I enjoy everyone's talent.
I am in need of:
Greek styles and sounds
Turkish styles and sounds
Arabic Styles and sounds
Persian Styles and sounds
Assyrian Styles and sounds
Khaligi Styles and sounds
It is a PA500ORT, not the PA800, and most sets on google are either fake or for the 800.

3) I want to reorganize the folders, styles, sounds, and performances that are in my OS. When I connect the USB cord to my computer, it only shows me my USER folder :(
Is there special software that will give me access into the system files so that I can use my computer to reorganize and rename everything? How do people that create new sets do it? It takes weeks to do it by hand via touch screen.

4) Can someone explain how to use the sequencer in this? When I press SEQUENCER, than press RECORD, it gives me 3 options. I usually pick backing sequence to record ideas I have for a song, but of course rough drafts. What are the other two options for?

5) If there is a wonderful drum sequence I would like to use for a song I'd like to professionally record in ProTools, what would be the best way to transfer the drum style to Protools with the accompaniment? Would I have to actually play the song out professionally and record it as one track?

Thank you for helping me out. I know Im asking too much, I don't mean to but I really couldn't find information to answer my questions. I need your help

I have the ORT.. I will try... dont have answers for all....

1)Pitch bender... there were some previous threads here that explains how to clean it... you may try that . Also, it is supposedly easy to replace it. Again, there are threads here for links to the store for ordering the pitch bender. Please search
2)I dont know if you have looking for free ethnic styles or want to pay and buy. I have NOT found many free ethnic styles available anywhere, as they are specialized and usually harder to make, hence people sell them... ebay has several ethnic sets that I see often that you can buy. I have links to several style sites, but, as you said, it is mostly for PA800. It works fine on 500 though... just not ethnic styles that is the only issue.
3)Dont know if you can do that for 500. I am not aware of such a program.
4) from the manual, explanation for the 3 options:
Multitrack Sequencer
Full-featured sequencer. Select this option for
classic multitrack recording. (See “Record mode:
Multitrack Sequencer page” on page 177).
Backing Sequence (Quick Record)
Easy way of recording. Just play with Styles, and
record your realtime performance.
Step Backing Sequence
Step-record. Edit chords and controls for the
Style. Very useful if you are not a keyboard player.

5)If I understand what you are asking correctly, easiest way is to edit a style, change the drum pattern to your new drum sequence and then do a recording with accompaniment.

Hope this helps.
Good luck!
I don't know anything about music. In my line you don't have to -- Elvis Presley.

1) Thank you for the answer. Now do you think the pitch bender would be easy for me to install/replace? I'm pretty handy with technology but not exactly a super nerd.

2) Yes, I am talking about free styles/sounds. I would love if someone can contribute anything they have.

3) See, the reason why I am asking for a way to reorganize easily is because when you install a new SET into your PA500, it completely replaces/deletes the SET you already had. Now I don't like all the styles/sounds from the new SET, and I don't like all the styles/sounds from the old set neither. So, hypothetically speaking, I would like to save the styles/sounds that I like from each set, and create a collection that is organized from the sets I want.

4) Thx
5) Thx

I appreciate this forum's help!

I have 10 different sets.

Now my question is, how do I pick certain styles from one set, and combine them into another set.
When I load the other set, it completely overwrites the USER 1 and USER 2 styles from the first set.

I cant move anything around.

Hi there. I don't have a PA500. I have the older PA80. But I think more and less the principals are the same. So I'll try to give you some tips on combining your sets. Firstly, I'm pretty sure the PA500 does not have sampling capabilities. So it means that all these sets use the factory sounds and drum kits. So for you it means you don't have to worry about transferring sound samples between various sets.

Typically when you go to load a set, if you choose the folder that contains the set, the machine will load everything that is contained in that set. It includes styles and performances. However, when you are choosing what to load, when you get to the folder that contains the set, instead of selecting the folder to load, use the "open" funtion in the menus at that point to get inside of that folder. On my PA80 that function is called "OPEN". I am not sure if that function is called the same in PA500. If it is not, there must be a similar term. So you open the folder and then open the next folder that includes the styles. Then choose the style that you want to load. Usually you should be able to install a full bank of styles, or individual styles. Once you choose what you want to load, the machine will ask you where you want to load it. So you would choose from the user loacation.

So first study the sets that you want to cherry pick and make a note of the styles and performances that you want to pick from it. Then use the procdeure above to load them at the locations of your choosing. You can load individual performances, or full banks of performances the same way as loading styles.

So after you cherry pick the first set, hopefully you have left some open spots for the next set. So cherry pick styles and performances from the second set. Make sure you don't over write what you have loaded from the first set.

After you fill up all the banks with the styles and perfomances of your choosing, then from the menus, perhaps the "Utilities" menus, you would choose the "Save" function. That is what it is called in PA80. The PA500 may use another term instead of "Save". If you choose the "All" option, it will save all the styles and performance.

Similar to the load function, when you use the "Save" function, you can save either "All", or you can save some styles or performances. It works the same as the "Load" funtion. Just remember you don't have to load everything and you don't have to save everything. The then you'll have all kinds of flesibility in handling your sets.
