Kronos and iPad

Does anyone know if the Kronos can be used with the ipad via coremidi and the camera kit? There's a new sequencer app (named Genome) that looks like it would be pretty cool to use in conjunction with the Kronos.

Yes, KRONOS responds to MIDI.... so any application that can send/receive MIDI messages via standard MIDI cable will work with KRONOS. You just have to put the KRONOS in SONG mode and do the mixing in KRONOS.

I've had some success using the iPad/Kronos via Mac/Wifi. Setting up basic CC's is a doddle but understanding Korg's Sysex messages for in-depth editing just on the Poly6 alone melts my brain... but I'm getting there.
There's a couple of MIDI wifi clients out there for the Mac (not sure about Windows), that can then be routed to any MIDI device via
MIDI Patchbay. I used to use
Touch Osc but that was far too convoluted, so I switched to
MIDI Touch which is much better, as you can create and edit templates on the iPad itself.
Life will be much easier when we get the Kronos Editor though

Should work. If you have both Kronos and iPad just go and try and tell us! Genome itself it costs nothing compared to Kronos

PS. I also noticed very interesting Genome sequencer and, honestly, watching latest iPad software developments I have feeling that this iPad thing will make Kronos sequencer redundant and even maybe whole Kronos hardware pretty soon. I mean, as I understand, iPad processing power is comparable to Atom built in Kronos. So with new iPad generation it could theoretically handle complete Kronos engines as well so that we would need just a apropriate hardware interface.

The iPad is not even close. Think maybe 16 note polyphony.

Of course he envisions a future iPad model....but its going to be YEARS before the likes of a fully functional Kronos can run on an iPad. However....I will say....something like this is in our future at some point. I don't know if "iPad" will be the hardware format....but you already see the seedlings of it. Consider iMS20....thats one "engine" plus a sequencer and effects. Its hard to see what the future will bring....but you can bet Korg will fight to maintain their proprietary excellence whatever it is.

Ok I got the camera kit ($29) and the genome app ($15) and it works fine. When you go to the midi page in the app Kronos shows up just like it would in the audio/midi setup page in the Mac OS X.

can you connect the ipad to the Kronos DIRECT with the normal USB connection that you'd use to charge the iPAD?

Today I spent some time setting up a new Pioneer receiver with Apple Air built in. Transmitting audio from the iPad was a breeze.
just thought I would mention that.
Genome sounds interesting though I already have several other apps that sequence

No, you can t hook up to charge it.
I m using both with the yamaha motif drumpad/arp application. You got then a nicer drumpad than the padkontrol or the nanopad. I has the learn fonction that displays the chords assigned to each pad, the roll function,an xy pad....
I do use too the ipad For score displaying

I don't want to charge it....I'm saying can you hook it up directly and control it via midi.....or do you have to have the camera connection kit, etc.?

No, you have to use a camera connection kit or other core midi capable interface. The camera connection kit is easy and not expensive.

I'm going to go after the IO dock. It seems to be a more robust and professional way to implement the iPad into a musical instrumentation setup.
Thanks.
