at 2:16 i hear this bell that sounds almost exactly like Super mario 64's underwater music. i have made a few bells using the DWGS, but i'm not sure what gives this bell its whimsical character that i fail to acchieve.- is it possible to replicate? or is it just a simple tweak of the knobs?

That's an FM EP sound.

I'd recommend playing with the envelope controlling VPM depth on a triangle or sine wave oscillator.

I got something kind of like it but it becomes too distorted on any octave below the middle octave... and i've tried using keytrack to lower it or have the vpm be lower on lower octaves, and that just makes it sound worse. something about the vpm is just not working with me. but in the middle octave, it sounds like that sound just about exactly.

how could i fix this problem in general? it seems to be a pretty consistant issue.
