triggering not possible directly out of the box.
but you can get some info around the corner:

Huh?OhioBuckeye wrote:is that accurate when the article states it can trigger external sound modules??
I see this sentence in the final paragraph of that article:
"It can also be used as a trigger when connected to external sound modules"
I've no idea what they are referring to. Out-of-the-box, there are only two main audio outputs, plus a headphone output. There is no trigger output.

they want certainly to talk about a plugin trigger like that
http://www.audiofront.net/dspTrigger.php
just plug the audio out of wavedrum into that plugin and replace by a new sound as you want with a VST instrument like halion for example.
i doesn't try it, but maybe work but it's only usual in a "home studio mode" for research a new sound, not for make a really real time
like a sound replacing drum, many ingeneer sound use the sound replacing mode in studio after recording a real drummer for more good sound, many use "drummagog 5" for make that, it's more use easy, personnaly i use that.
http://www.drumagog.com/
you record your session drum, after, you apply the drummagog plugin and by drummagog you can triggering a VST instrument like BFD2, it's simply and powerfull
for a real time external triggering, in any situation like a live performance, the solution of WaterDrum is the best way, the internal sound of wavedrum is enought.
Now, nerver i try to put directely the audio output of wavedrum into the brain module drum like a TD4, TD9 of roland or DTX 900 of yamaha for trigger the new sound !, maybe work too

I just wanted to make something clear about editing on the Wavedrum, ORT.
Editing is more straight forward than I originally thought. After spending 20 minutes reading the manual while at the drum, it became clear.
The logic is a little different, but the menus are not too deep, and they are (mostly) logical.
Next step is to try each algorithm. That might take awhile.
