Sample trigger question?

I have a short intro to a song that I'd like to trigger with a pad/pedal/note. I want the sample to play to it's end without having to hold down the trigger the whole tome. I've got the sample triggering, but when I release the trigger, the sample stops playing.

I am guessing this could be a simple configuration issue with the sample, but I couldn't find where to do this. Any help? Thanks.

Well, not exactly the same thing, since these are short samples, not just one long loop. I have an FCB1010, which I have triggering notes on the top pedals, and I'd like to take full advantage of that w/the K88. The FCB1010 pedal notes are then mapped to a multisample containing different individual samples (the intro, a couple of short licks, etc.)

I'll look into the 'hold' and 'mono' options, if I can find that on the front page of the associated MS program. Perhaps that will do the trick.

Mapping the samples as 'drums' would also seem to be a viable solution, but I have no idea how to do that. Can anyone point me in the right direction there?

Turning on the 'hold' paramter (just one check box in a program) would be a lot easier than starting to create your own drum kit.

Yes, the HOLD checkbox is what you want. It is on the BASIC/VECTOR tab page of the Program you assign your sample to.

There are two ways to do this. One is at the Multisample level - SAMPLE mode, MULTI-SAMPLE tab. I cut (delete) all but one Index and assign a sample at the appropriate keys. More indexes can be created as needed. The downside to this method is that you can't create Exclusive Groups (where closed hi hats can cut off open hi hats, etc.).

*The preferred way is to assign samples to a USER drum kit in GLOBAL mode.

1) Select any factory drum program, as the HOLD, AMP and other parameters will be optimized for drum sounds.

2) Press the OSC/PITCH tab. Then OSC1 BASIC tab. Select a blank User drum kit.

3) Press the GLOBAL mode button.

4) Press the DRUM KIT tab and at the top left of your screen, select the same User drum kit number that you did in Program mode. You can continually switch back and forth between GLOBAL and PROGRAM modes, but save (write) your program if you are going to switch to a different program.

5) Press the SAMPLE SETUP tab.

6) Hold ENTER and press any key on your keyboard to go there. Press ENTER and the bottom key to start. Check the ASSIGN checkbox.

I'm not at my keyboard, but if you leave several notes un-assigned, they should play in pitch whatever the next sound is.

7) On this page, you can select the top crossfade zone and change ROM MONO to RAM MONO (or stereo). press the little arrow to check out all the sounds in RAM.

You can stack (layer) two sounds at once or use the zones to velocity crossfade though 8 sounds. Check page #169 of the Operations Guide for more.

Remember - SAVE your program and also save an ALL file to your Hard drive. This will save the Samples, Programs and Global Settings, including the User Drum bank you just worked on. I save all my files per project. If I want to use that drum kit in a different project, I can OPEN the file to get it.
