Hi there i have a question bout the yamaha vl 1. I was told in order to load vl 7 sounds i must need a chip inside my vl 1 to make it version 2. Is this true. And what is the name of this chip? Or must i buy a vl 1 version 2 and there is no chip ? Please any info will be appreciated

There is a chip to go from version 1 to 2, but it's been so long ago. I don't think you needed version 2 to load VL7 sounds.
Anyway more info here:

I don't think you need V2 to load VL7 into VL1.
Yes, if a sound was made with V2, then you do need a V2 chip to load the sounds.
There are some on ebay:

Yes, but most Yamaha floppy drives break. There's a way to fix them, but every single one of mine has broken. It's a bummer, but you can still use MIDI.

I thought you had a VL1. It's one of the greatest lead synths every developed IMO.

You don't need the floppy. Every patch is available online pretty much. It really is the only keyboard I absolutely cannot replace and really.... to me it is the greatest lead synth ever made. It's super fast, has great sounds, everything was top notch.

ok, yes, it's DISCONTINUED!!!!!!!!
Now I am telling you that when mine breaks - and it may - I swear I will make my own breath controller.
I know how to do it, I even have the breath sensor. There is only one reason why I haven't done it yet and that is laziness/and time. I will get to it. We will have breath controllers for our VL1 in the future.
In the meantime, find some at any local store. They must still have them.
