With a $500 rebate on the SV-1 and $200 rebate on the M50's, might Korg be trying to clear their inventory and introduce something new at NAMM? I'm putting my order in right now for the semi-weighted 73 key C-C Kronos. Like that will ever happen.

Think it might have more to do with the worldwide recession so to shift product you've got to drop your prices - dont think it is to clear inventory.

It is fairly normal for Korg USA to have a year-end promotion on some items. This is to increase sales and does not necessarily have any relationship on the release of replacement products.

The guitarist of my band (who also has a studio) asked me yesterday after the rehearsal if there was a Kronos Rack. He (and other members of my bend) were surprised by the sound quality of the Kronos.

It might as well be Krack - the thing is pretty addicting!

Maybe Kronox (Kronos in a Box) is a better name then?

+1
Its first time i agree with you, Dudi.
Kronos rack will be GREAT decision for all of us.
But this Kronos rack will be a problem for Korg profit, i shure.
They cant earn much money on rack units by some reason.

However, if they want to keep the display, it will be quite a big device.

Probably they will reduce the number of controllers and decrease the display (no edit screens?)

Yes, may be. But we have simply example with roland v-synth xt. Its have big display with touchscreen but unit not quite a big itself.
If Korg will make Kronos rack with similar design i will buy it immidiately.
I am ready to pay 2000$ for this, for example.

I wonder if it can be made so cheap, mostly the difference between a rack and normal (61) version is not 33% if I'm right.

Not really...quite a few major keyboard racks have the screen still on them:

As for controllers, yeah you get rid of most of those...the whole point of a rack is to control it via a controller...not to reproduce the keyboard (controlls and all) on a rack module.

As long as it can accept the midi messages, can be accepted, the limitation is on the controller, not the rack module.

Yes I assume it's not so difficult to make.

However, if you don't need to gig, mostly a software synth can take over, so that's probably why racks are not really that profitable anymore to make/design.
