Oasys Screen loose

After 6 years of "heavy duty" the O´s display will not remain in position anymore. I also found a very little metal piece underneath the display once...
Does anybody know the repair procedure for this? I don´t want to turn it in for service.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hope it is not a major issue. sorry, not had that problem yet and so can't help you.
In any case, you may already know that the best thing to do is to call your distributor. They may be able to advise you better.
And...please keep us posted as to how you sorted it out for future reference. thanks.

Thanks for you answer dranandj,
but i don´t want to turn it it, especially since it is no major issue. I´ve been putting something underneath the screen so it keeps upwards. I can live with that.
I know there was a post about this in the past, but i don´t find it...
I keep you informed if i find out something.

A few people seem to have had similar issues as this, so the following is from a post I wrote in reply to another thread when someone else had such a problem.
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... ht=#427376
Have you moved the O recently or do you move the touch screen up when using it and then put it back down when not in use. Possibly that could have loosened the cable connection.

But first I would try out what Michel suggests and try removing the RAM stick and pci card and then putting them back. Then check that the connnection to the screen isnt disconnected or loose. The connection to the screen is partly outside the Oasys case I believe, in that little box that sticks out of the back of the Oasys.
Also watch this youtube video just in case that helps, courtesy of Mike Conway Smile

Perhaps someone else who has had this issue can tell you more. Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks for your help t_tangent, but its a different problem. The display itself is working fine, its just not standing up anymore.
Sort of erectile dysfunction...

...at the risk of trivialising the problem for the sake of a joke...
If it was a KORG KARMA keyboard, you could have got this

I remember a few years ago either Jerry or Dan saying that the tension on the hinges can be adjusted very simply.

Sharp.

razzaq1, your excused... haven´t laughed that loud for long...
Thanks Sharp. AFAIK, the tension can be affected by the screws on both sides. In my case it seems to be different. There are two tiny little screws from the back of the display lost and/or broken....
I guess i´ll call Korg Support/Musik-Meyer tomorrow.

Long ago, I was told that the hinges can be tightened. I don't know the procedure, however. You write that you're planning to contact your Korg Distributor; that's always a good first step.

Last week my KorgSupport in Germany let me know that the required spare parts are no longer deliverable.
Does that mean, my 7000 € Flagship is a piece of electronic scrap, if something more important breaks? Or are other more important parts, like screen, mainboard or the proprietary sound board still available?
Regards

Well that's the decision Korg took when discontinuing the OASYS in Nov 2009.
The only that Korg promised re the OASYS (by implication of the discontinuation) is that they will no longer replenish parts stocks. Which means they will eventually run out.
Which means, yes, we are all sitting with POTENTIALLY and / or EVENTUALLY electronic scrap.
Hopefully we're a long way from that - fingers crossed!

I always regarded the tiltable screen as a potential future problem and a bad design idea, which is the reason why I NEVER move it and I've even fixed the screen to the case with TESA-Powerstrips on both of my OASYS-88. They are invisible but can be removed easily, if I should ever have to open one of my OASYS. Even with this fixed flat screen position, I am still able to read and handle the touchscreen without any problems, because the screen is large enough and the contrast is still good enough...
But the story of "markn" is a very bad and sad one and KORG lost my confidence. I am buying and playing synths since the early eighties and I never used ANY Korg gear before I've purchased my two OASYS-88 and later a KORG MicroPiano for my nephew, who already plays it with great joy in the age of just 8 months!!! (His music is of course quite vanguard yet...)
But the two OASYS and the Micropiano will remain my only KORG purchase for the rest of my life. I will never ever consider KORG in the future, as I did during all the decades before. I always prefered Yamaha, Roland and Clavia products in the past. I think I've payed KORG more money than to any other synth company and I am thankful that they took the risk to produce the outstanding OASYS. And I am also very thankful for the MicroPiano, which allows my little nephew to experience the joy of playing an instrument already in the first months of his life! But otherwise: That's it KORG...
BTW: I think the outstandig people from KORG USA should split from KORG Inc. Japan and form their own company...

Well, actually I´m very satisfied with my Korg-equipment. I owned MS-20, Cx-3, M1, M3R, Triton, Triton-Rack, which I sold mostly, and now i´m using Oasys and Kronos (still got the triton-rack) and as Dany, I paid a lot to Korg and I don´t regret it. Every device was or is a great piece of gear.
But - i own a 11 year old Audi, and still get EVERY single piece, either a gearbox, or a tiny little screw from any Audi-Dealer in Europe. And i would bet, that there is a EU-directive for how long spare parts have to be deliverable
What i´m trying to say ist: If someone sells a piece of Equipment in the upper price-segment like Oasys, he should make sure, that there is a sufficient stock of spare parts for a certain amount of years. Any other behaviour is irresponsible, in my point of view. Anywhay, thats how it is. Hopefully the crossed fingers of Cello will help, i cross mine for us all too.
What i also like to point out: I am not at all unsatisfied with the Korg support in Germany, these guys helped me outstanding before, when i had trouble with my O. They are doing the best they can to help. They´re also very helpful with my Kronos ( i´ve got the RH3 Problem).
And also as you say Dany, Korg USA is extremely helpful too, as we all can see here in this forum (i.e. Danatkorg, RichF, etc.)
The problem probably further east, the weird business policy of the parent company...

Yes, Dan Phillips from Korg USA offered me outstanding personal support and he sacrificed his personal and valuable time to help me, when I had some issues with spring noise of the keys, caused by lack of lubrication. A Korg repair man finally visited me and fixed the spring noise issue by lubricating the whole keybaord of the OASYS-88 for free!!! Even when my second OASYS-88 had the same issue, he visited me again and fixed the issue for almost free, because this model didn't have warranty, coming from the scond-hand market...
This was the best personal support, I've ever experienced with any company!!! My compliments to KORG in this regard!!!
