Recording MIDI from Karma

Is it possible to record MIDI generated by Karma so it plays back exactly the same when sent back to the Kronos? I'm having so many problems with this and I think I'm doing it right according to other posts here.

Which is ...

Assuming I want to record some random noodling around using a Karma combi. I copy the combi into a song (Enter+Rec-Write), set the status of each track to "bth" in P2:Track Parameters then record what comes out of the USB MIDI into Cubase. If I split the resulting recording into channels then play the channels back into the Kronos it sounds awful. On the Kronos I have the same song selected, Karma is set to Off as is Drum Track. Cubase is recording the SysEx messages as I can see them in the MIDI event lists.

If I record the same thing into the internal sequencer, export the midi file as type 1 with SysEx, import it into Cubase then play it back everything sounds ok.

Am I missing something blindingly obvious here, or is there a general issue recording Karma output?

Thinking about it now, I've not tried recording what comes out of the MIDI ports on the Kronos rather than USB so that may be different ?

Not sure exactly what "sounds awful" means, but two possibles:

The Program Change messages being recorded are messing with the sounds on the K. Remove them from the start of the recording before playing it back, or otherwise filter them.

Or, there could be a MIDI loop situation happening.

OK ... after a TV/beer break to give my brain a chance to cool down I tried again after doing a factory reset from the SSD which is something I'd not done before and probably should have as it was on demo at the local music store for a couple of days before I got it!

Anyways, I rerecorded some stuff from scratch and played it back and the playback seems ok now. I have no idea what was messed up but I'm assuming the reset cleared things up.

Just for reference, there were no PC messages in the MIDI data, but there were three SysEx messages that turned the Karma, Latch and DT buttons on although I'd already removed them in previous tests so that wasn't the problem.
