ZERO 8 / certain issues solved / message for ILLEAGLE

Hi, there!

In one year and a half of using the mixer I got some of the problems decribed on the forum (deteriorated sound similar to CPU overload when the latency is set too low + random swapping of the channels on start up) and spent some time reading all the related posts on forum.

Went to the service engineer, he said that my Firewire section is blown out and replaced it that took me 75USD.

Now everything is running well.

He also recommended TO PLUG FIREWIRE CABLE ONLY WHEN BOTH DEVICES (LIKE MAC AND ZERO) ARE TURNED OFF COMPLETELY, AND EVEN THE EXTENDER SOCKET IS TURNED OFF (IF YOU ARE USING SMTH LIKE APC PROTECTION FILTERS)! AND WAIT 3-4 MINUTES BEFORE PLUGGING IT IN TO LET ALL RESIDUAL CURRENTS TO GO.

That's what I got from him and will follow.

Hopefully it helps.

the problem came back.
and after second visit to service engineer, it happenned again. f*ck x 3!!!
though he states that on PC it works fine, but I think he did not try it on a multitrack.

now Zero swaps the channels when I try to record incoming audio
(it shows incoming signals as on channels 3/4 and 7/8 while the cables are plugged into 1/2 and 5/6 correspondingly).

attempt to playback audio from ableton in Firewire mode, is identical - no sound output on those channels).

if anybody meet the same issue - please advise.

will try it on PC/Сubase today to double check but it seems that the problem is somewhere in the FW chip area (though the chip is from TI).

I am having a frustratingly similar problem ...

Last night, the power blinked for a few seconds here in town. I went downstairs to find my machine had rebooted to Linux (have a dual boot windows box). So I shut down, and restarted in XP ...

After the machine had restarted in XP I noticed that channel 3 on the Zero8 had frozen and was showing, but not emitting a signal.

SO, I rebooted again, restarted the mixer and when I got back to Windows, channels 1 and 2 were not properly streaming audio. When the channels are set to Audio+MIDI, no audio is streamed. However, when I switch to just MIDI, audio is heard. Also, if channels 1 and 2 are set to MIDI, Ableton receives no MIDI data from the slider ... you do get data from the pots, but you have to trick the mixer into sending them (changing channels to and from audio+midi).

I have tried re-installing the firewire drivers for the Zero8, no effect. I have tried holding cue 7&8 (ROM innit), no effect. I am thinking about re-updating the firmware (1.6 is currently installed) but can't find a way to permanently revert the firmware on the mixer. Not even sure this will do anything if I try to go back to 1.5.

Any suggestions from anyone?

I have also tried un-wiring the mixer and letting it sit over night.

I really wish there was a way to either "get under the hood" of this thing, and or a way to flush away it's memory. When streaming errors like these happen, you feel helpless.

huh.
I've spent hours and days after getting it back from service (it was my second time) trying to solve that bloody channel swapping issue.

And was rewarded at the end, as it seems for a couple of days.

Try to switch ON Zero first, and then switch on the PC.
I'm working on Mac, probably it wont help, but try.

Factory resets, Resetting Firmware didnt help me at all,
I keep on running 1.60.

But as soon as I started to boot Zero first, and my Mac at second - the problem dissapeared.
