Hi everyone!

I want to buy Kronos, but after reading the forums it seems that many Kronos stations are of poor quality (keyboard, wheel, fan..). How can I check the quality at the store?

Buy it and bring it home!!!!! Nothing to worry about.,,, some minor concerns but korg will take care of you if you have problems.

The problems have been WAY WAY WAY over-exaggerated by a select number of people. Buy one, enjoy it. If you're looking for a 73 or 88 key version, try it out before you leave the store. If it has an issue with note cutoff, ask that they have the keybed replaced under warranty. Problem solved.

I have one of the first Kronos' to ship to US customers. I've had zero issues with mine.

I do it like watermelons...i knock on the display with my finger...if it sounds
boomy...then its good.

Always pick the most lively one, nobody wants the runt . If its running around wagging its power cable and has a cheeky glint in it's touch screen, you'll be fine.
Do not turn it over and tickle it's under side, it'll never leave you alone.

LOL ... it's better to knock on the keys ... and attach some speakers.

I live out in the boonies. None of our watermelons have displays but your idea sound plausible!

How do I properly check the note cutoff?

P.S. About the problems, just saw a thread with a person who bought Kronos, but can't get it to start up..Just sayin'..

Play the German Grand for half an hour and use plenty of damper and light and shade. It is an intermittent problem but Korg will fix it. It doesn't effect every keyboard. A small percent. Regarding not switching on. If it's broken, you take it back like any other electrical item.

I can assure you, the Kronos is a tremendous keyboard, I, as the majority think the build quality is excellent.

I have to agree with McHale that the problems are greatly over-exaggerated by the fact that those with problems come in here to bitch and you don't hear from all the happy people.

I have one of the first K-61s to ship (serial #000387). I use it in a live-band situation so it's getting loaded in-and-out of a trailer, dragged around and bumped around and it's been fine. The ONLY issues I've had are that vector joystick knob came off --fixed easily with one drop of Super Glue -- and sometimes the touchscreen is un-responsive. I have to keep touching the same spot over-and-over to get it to 'click' when I'm trying to reach one of the 'tiny' spots on the touchscreen. And that's probably something I can adjust, but it doesn't happen often enough for me to worry about it.

And it DID lock up once and I had to reboot.

As far as the fan goes. Yeah, it's a bit loud. I don't know if it's just paranoia from reading so much about it, but it DOES seem a bit louder now than it did six months ago. In any case, it's certainly not anywhere near so loud that it interferes with anything I'm doing.

BTW-I've yet to update the OS.

the good ones usually come in an unopened box. Not used as a demo at your local guitar center, or worse yet as loaner to some studio.

Make sure it doesn't have the cut off problem, but as others told already, they will fix that soon if that's the case. Mine still is faulty, but even then, this thing is a beast. Never regretted buying it.

I bought mine and didn't play it until I got home with it. I turned it on and nothing happened for a few seconds. I almost pooped myself! But then the primary joystick lit up at the screen said Kronos! I haven't looked back and I have the 5th one in Canada. It's a 73 key version. The only problems I've had are things that I did to it myself. Things like not saving sounds onto the hard drive or thinking I had lost sounds but I hadn't. So far every sound I have made on it is there. It plays like a dream and I have a heavy hand on keyboards. That comes from a classical piano background and having learned on a hard piano.
I think you should have no worries at all about a Kronos.
