Austrian piano ++

Just downloaded and authorized the Austrian Piano. Wow. For me, and what I do, the texture, responsiveness, and tonality of the Austrian is incredible. It feels like a piano that really responds to my playing more than the German Grand. And for film score and for improvisational solo piano, my main two uses of the pianos, it seems better than any keyboard based piano I've ever used, and very much something to lose one's self in. The German is great too, and different enough, darker, that it really at times might serve better. But for those who have not tried the Austrian, I can only say it is exactly what I hoped to get out of the Kronos and I highly recommend it.

So you believe that a product must only have one development cycle so all features and functionality are always delivered at first launch?

Nearly everyone on the planet would disagree with you.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with delivering a product like the Kronos then offering additional expansion add-ons at a later date.

If you don't think the add-on is worth its price, you simply don't buy it.

Yes, but those aren't integrated into the Kronos.

Mega GB sample libraries that run on personal computers do usually have the absolute best sound available. I have tons of high quality Kontakt and GigaStudio libraries.

However the pianos on the Kronos sound great.

The beauty of the Kronos design is its expandability. Not every expansion is going to be desired by everyone. I don’t have my Kronos just yet (only a few more weeks until I place my order), so I don’t know if the Austrian is going to be something I need. If so, I’ll gladly show my support and pay the $249.

I’m sure that we all want a long and lustrous life for the Kronos, with a variety of new expansions to enhance its already powerful library. I would guess that hinges, in part, on the success of these early expansions. So, I consider any expansion purchase I might make an investment in the future of my instrument of choice.

klikx,

you don't have to buy anything and have two great pianos on board of the Kronos, plus the Oasys piano on SSD.

If you want additional sounds, fine.
If you don't want them, fine as well.

But, after getting the incredibly rich content of the Kronos - a sound diversity you get on NO other hardware synth nowadays - coming here and talking of "paying for every crap", that kind of rant sounds nothing but "posting any ill-tempered crap" to me. You could as well say: "I already paid for my Mac with Garage Band. Now they come and want more money for Logic, and for each and every new sampling library".
So what????

I'm looking foward to some new Kronos libraries, and I am willing to pay for a good job anytime, like I did for the West Coast Drums and for the Boesendorfer.

New Kronos owner here. Can't believe the negativity about the expansion options. Kronos is a complete bargain... I remember the Fairlight and Synclavier and their prices for expansion options!!     You couldn't even put third party RAM in the Synclavier as it would blow up!!!

I don't even have the Austrian piano but its nice to know I can get a new piano if I wish. I am having the greatest time composing on what I already have...

Without doubt Kronos is the best keyboard in my studio and I have nearly 30 of them here ranging from vinatge moogs, Oberheims, etc to a grand piano.

Kudos to Korg for making these options and smacked bottoms for the guys who want everything for free... probably torrent sites and crackz and warez sites are more your flavour.

I don't mind paying for things. Would love some interesting new EXis more geared to classic (simple) vintage synths and filter types personally... gonna dig into the Polysix and MS20 this afternoon... make some patches from scratch... LOVELY STUFF!

The other common business model is that there will be no expansions and you can pay $3000 or more for the Kronos 2.

So everybody should decide, pay for all upgrades or wait until the next version comes out. Probably buying expansions will be more expansive (depending on the difference with 'Kronos 2' but then you already have them in possession right now.

Here are a couple sample improv recordings of the Austrian Piano for those of you considering the instrument. I might add that mostly what I like is the Austrian's perceived responsiveness . Others may react differently, it is after all subjective. By the way, I have NEVER bought a board without expansion options available at a later date most especially piano. The German Piano is stunning, and the Austrian FOR ME is an even better fit.

Here is the basic Austrian Grand:

And here is a fun new age program I like very much:

Good stuff and a nice way to highlight what you are saying in your comments about the Austrian piano. Thanks for the examples!

Nice example, but I think I still like the German grand that I tweaked a while ago more. I do agree that responsiveness can be just as important as the sound. Thanks for sharing.
