Hi all. I've been researching here for some info and have not come across anything concrete so I figured I'd make a thread and see what bubbles up.

I've had my Trinity+ since they were released. Over the years some odd behavior has been occurring and I need to finally address all of it. Just curious if anyone has come across any of this and might suggest next course of action?

1) Outputs don't seem as loud as they should be, in comparison to some other synths I own (Nord rack, OB8, DW8000) NOTE: I had the original jacks replaced years ago (when Trinity was still a current model) since I was getting output failure on one output. This initial problem I think was the output problem mentioned on the forums here, though I'm not sure if the original board had been replaced at the time - or just the jacks. Hadn't noticed the 'lack' of output volume until recently though when I get could all my boards set up in studio.
2) Aftertouch appears non-functional. It is enabled in the software, and I've adjusted the sensitivity settings but it doesn't seem to respond to any AT from the keyboard.
3) MOst strange, when I power the unit up it's fine. If I have to power down, then up immediately after - it won't come on. It needs to "rest" for awhile, maybe 15-30 minutes before it will power on again. Strange indeed.

Thanks in advance for any direction you guys can give me.

Disclaimer: I'm not a Trinity expert, but I have experience tinkering with electronics repair.

1) Depending on how long the board has been sitting unused, it may be that the volume slider contacts have oxidized. Is it louder in one channel than the other? Try sliding the knob all the way up and down quickly for a minute and see if it cleans up the contacts any. If that doesn't work, I read a post somewhere on this forum about the output muting transistors going bad and causing a muffling distortion to the outputs. Is the sound perfectly clear, just soft? Is there a crackling sound when you are playing and sliding the volume slider at the same time?

2) The aftertouch cable inside the keyboard is pretty easy to snag on something and damage or disconnect if you've ever had your Trinity taken apart. It's a half-inch wide ribbon with two metal traces on it that runs from the far left of the keyboard assembly (when looking at the bottom of the keyboard while it's laying upside-down, on the opposite end from the diskette drive) to a small circuit board screwed to the keyboard assembly. If you're brave enough to open up the back, check that cable to make sure it's not disconnected or damaged.

3) Strange indeed. I would tend to blame the power supply, but I'm not sure on this one. Maybe someone else has seen this?

I only just this weekend bought a previously abused Trinity as a refurbishment project. Please take what I say as mere suggestions. If anyone here would like to correct me, I am as open to accepting advice as I am to giving it.

have the same afttouch problem with my pro-x,check the cable-and it's unplugged. Now I donno how to plug it in correctly to aft work again

i dont think any two motherboard cable connector slots are the exact same. every time i have taken a trinity apart, it's never been a problem finding where the cables plug back in. i believe if you find one that matches the after touch cable its most likely it. you can also tell by how far the cable will reach. i do prefer the after touch on the pro-x vs regular trinity.


ooops aftertouch ribbon. theres a small white connector. pull on the top if it and it pops up. slide the rivvon in as far as it will go the push the white piece back in and its locked. just figured i'd correct this for future readers. sorry

Im gonna open my trinity soon to install HDR, so I'll make a couple of photos of the connector and the cable, they feet well to each other, but when I plugged in - aft still didnt work.

In service/diagnostics mode you can verify the circuitry for AT. If that fails, you're sure on to some electronics repair job.

Make sure you backup everything before, as entering diagnostics mode will erase all your data. See the service manual for more details (linked elsewhere on this forum).

Thanks for the tips guys, I will crack her open tonight and look for the AT cable connection. Hopefully that's it.

I will probably reload the OS too and see if that affects any of the aforementioned behavior.
