How do you shade your fixed screen? Is anything available?

I guess we all run into this problem, the reflection of ceiling lights in the touchscreen. I'm talking about fixed-screen models, not the adjustable kind found on Pa2X and Pa3X.

Is there a commercially available screen shade, or has anyone made one themselves? If you have, what kind of material did you use and how did you fix it to the screen surround? Ideally, it would be able to fit and remove easily for gigging, yet remain stable enough while the keyboard is being played.

Cheers, Giner.

Hi Giner

Yes this can be a problem.
You could get hold of a PC screen anti-glare cover and cut it down to size.
These cut brightness a bit but should work...

Hi Pete,

I did try an anti-glare screen as you mention, and it was of some limited use. What I was thinking of was more of a screen hood (for want of a better word) of the kind that you see shielding the keypads on bank ATM's from prying eyes. These exclude light from three sides and from above - well, you know what I mean. Some that I've seen are of a rubberised material that I think would be just the ticket for a keyboard.

I don't want to go slicing one off of the bank's ATM's - bloody cameras everywhere . In the end, though, I think I might have to try and cobble something together and hope it looks alright.

Best regards, Giner

Hi Giner

I REALLY think you should hack one off a bank teller machine, make sure you video it - it will be a youtube hit - most would be trying to get money out of the machine, but YOU, just want the anti-glare shade - AWESOME

 Sure! I'll send you a card from the psych ward, Pete - if they allow pens in there.

I use a keyboard stand with two tiers. It's easy to position a shade on the upper tier. You could make one of most anything, including cardboard.
In fact I put a string of small lights on the bottom of the bar supporting the upper tier. Then I apply tape on the section of the light string that is over the screen, so it doesn't glare.
This allows me to both illuminate the PA3X and shade it from external glare.

Thanks for that, DonM. I've got a couple of extension arms somewhere - worth a shot.
