FR Three Classic Patches (including VH 1984)

Post by Phabius »

FR Three Classic Patches

This is a sample of what is to become a "Classic Patches Collection" in a near future.

The patches presented here are still in development, and I'm trying to improve the collection as time is available.

UBB-000: 1984

The classic Oberheim sound from Van Halen's 1984, programmed with two AL-1 engines running in split within a single program. Use Joystick -Y at the very end for filter sample-and-hold modulation and fade-out.

UBB-001: And You And I

One of Rick Wakeman's trademark Minimoog sounds. This one was based on the original version from Yes - Close To The Edge. It's an excellent starting point for other Minimoog sounds.

UBB-002: Wont Get Fooled Again

Although this is not the same techinque used by Pete in the original recording, I've managed to obtain a good simulation using the CX-3 engine. Just try to play the chords in sync with the square-wave LFO.

And, although it's not finished yet, you can download the first version of "On The Run" - Pink Floyd, here:

Phabius,

Good job!
Thank you so much for your programs.

Here you can find my attempt to program 1984:

Anyway, I think your program got closer to the original. And I liked very much the trick with the joystick. I had never thought of that. Very clever.

The other 2 are perfect too.

Keep going with that Classic Patches Collection

Um abraço.

Thanks everybody for your comments!

I was checking Wont Get Fooled Again and noticed I've forgot to turn the CX-3 Noise Level down. The setting is from the Hammond patch taken as starting point for programming. Please update if needed. I've turned it down from 30 to 05 here.

Yesterday I played a bit with the final sequence line of ELPs Karn Evil 9.
It was nice to discover that the step sequencer in Kronos handles it very well, as it has negative values (-100 - +100 (4 steps = 1 semitone)). The original sequence range exceeds 2 octaves and its difficult to create even on the Arturia Modular Moog.

It's not yet perfect but I'll post a sample later tonight.

I've updated the collection a little bit. From now on I will update this file on korgpatches.com

http://korgpatches.com/patches/kronos/f ... ic_patches

This set contains the 3 patches previously released, and 3 new patches.

UBB-000: 1984

UBB-001: And You And I

UBB-002: Wont Get Fooled Again

UBB-003: Karn Evil 9

The final sequence of the epic by Emerson Lake & Palmer, originally recorded on a Modular Moog. The step sequencer in Kronos handles it very well, as it has negative values (-100 - +100 (4 steps = 1 semitone)). Play middle C on the keyboard, use the Tempo knob from 70 to 300 and release the key. Voila.

UBB-004: On The Run (Updated)

This is the basic sequence for On The Run (Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon), originally recorded with the EMS Synthi A. This patch uses the AL-1 synthesis engine and the Common Step Sequencer. At this moment, this is just the basic sequence. I'm planning to add the hi-hats and other sounds. Play the first E key on the left of the keyboard (you can use the Hold parameter in the Program if you like). Knobs 1 & 2 (RT/Karma mode) control Cutoff and Resonance. Joystick -Y controls LFO depth to the Filter. Play with all three controls at the same time.

UBB-005: Welcome To The Machine

Another Minimoog sound, the ending solo from the classic by Pink Floyd.

Hope you like it!

I would guess not, these patches are for the Kronos not for the X50.
