IMS-20: How to transfer a line from keyboard to sequencer

I'm a novice and I'm not able to produce my music turning and managing those bloody knobs! I wonder how to play a melodic line on the keyboard and then transfer it in the sequencer. I tried with the button 'rec' on the left of the keyboard but nothing happened.
Can you help me? Sorry for the naivete of the question...
