sad about Rolandclan

Post by JPWC »

it makes me sad to visit the RolandClan. It all started with post that all but killed the Fantom G, and now the site has evolve into a sales site and other internet scams, the site seems to have been hit really hard over this last year.

I don't get it, spam a keyboard site with women's shoes, seems that is very poor marketing concept.

Running an online forum is a massive amount of work which largely goes completely unnoticed by most members of the forum when we are doing are jobs right.

I’ve given over 10 years of my life to this community and it’s been bloody tough work. Daz too… without him KORG Forums would never have survived.

Now we depend on all manner of tricks and the efforts of our good moderators to keep the forums clean for everyone. So from me, I will take this opertunity to say a big thank you to Pepperpotty, X-Trade, mikemolloyuk, georgeinar, karmathanever, and KORG USA.

Without that team beavering away in the background, this site would be overrun with spam in a single day.

It’s sad to see any site go down hill over this kind of thing. There are steps they can take to pervent most of the spam in a single swoop though. Services like www.stopforumspam.com for example help a lot.

Regards
Sharp.

I too despair at RolandClan - it's a quiet place at the best of times but is a useful resource in its own right.

But Sharp's post is revealing - in two ways;

1) the amount of work it takes to keep Korg Forums as spam-free as it is (I see one spam post maybe in a two week period) -

and then

2) how little work the mods do at RolandClan - there are 5 to 10 spam attacks every day, from what I can see anyway. I know that the mods are busy with day jobs but some of them don't visit for days...

I started a forum (JP-80.com) - could not keep up with the spam stuff, so regrettably closed it. So I know a little of how difficult the task is.

I'd like to echo sharp's thanks - they all really do a great job which lets us get on with being part of a very effective and efficient forum, and we mustn't forget to include sharp himself in our thanks! And it's all done without adverts as well (unlike RolandClan) =D>

Had problems with Infekted over the years, at one point we were getting well over 100 automated spammer bots a day. Simple fix, selected a harder CAPTCHA registration image query and it's trapped and rejected them all, over one hundred thousand of them.

All we get now is those PIONEER CDJ-1000 and NOKIA ad price listings every now and then which are cleared manually.
