Kronos editor functionality question.

I'm in the market for a new setup. I like the Kronos for the piano quality mainly but I hate the small fonts. So I'll be using the Kronos with the editor on low rez external touchscreen hooked up to a laptop. Can I do most things with the editor on my laptop - sequencer, etc? If this is not a doable solution, I'll just forgo the Kronos sadly.

Another thing, since I prefer lighter weighted keys than RH3 action, what board would pair well with the Kronos? I was thinking a Nord Piano/Stage 2, but that might be a waste of money and there may be overlap in sounds. Perhaps a motif would pair well?

Thanks

Nobody can tell me if the editor can control most of the functions of Kronos without using the screen?

Hey Aquablue,

I quote from https://korg.com/kronos:

The KRONOS Editor and KRONOS Plug-in Editor are applications for Macintosh and Windows that allow you to edit the following on the Kronos:
* Set List
* Combination
* Program
* Wave Sequence
* Drums
* Global settings
* Sequencer mode sounds and effects for multi-timbral use (editing of MIDI and audio data is not supported).

The KRONOS Editor is a stand-alone editor/librarian.
The KRONOS Plug-in Editor is compatible with DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) and other applications which have support for the VST and AU audio plug-in formats.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks. So, the editor doesn't allow you to edit the sequencer data. What a bummer! It is pretty useless then for my purposes. I can't imagine how awful it would be to try to use the tiny font screen to edit midi notes.

Yeah the sequencer on Kronos is not the best around (maybe the worst around :?:) Personally I really miss the enhancements on the M3... However, you may easily use the Kronos with your DAW... or even import MIDI sequences built on the computer to the Kronos.

Yes, if you're already planning to leave it hooked up to the computer, why the hell would you NOT use your DAW?

You have a point on that.

The editor allows editing of the different synth parameters, like AL-1, MS-20, correct?

Is the motif XF a much better scratch pad for ideas than the Kronos?

Talking about sequencers, Motif XF is way better than Kronos on this one. This is because you have two paradigms for recording: linear (also on Kronos) and loop/pattern based (Kronos gives RPPR but not that good as Motif XF)

Also, regarding computer integration, Motif XF is better if you add the FW16E firewire expansion, giving you 16 digital audio inputs, 6 digital audio outputs and 48 MIDI channels... Read a comparison I made regarding Kronos and Motif XF here: Switched from Motif to Kronos

BTW, the Kronos editor will indeed allow you to edit the parameters on the synth engines :)

Yep.
Thats the only way to go.

I was considering downloading the editor, but iirc, it required 1.6 and there were at one time some issues with 1.6

Can anyone enlighten me? :?
