Cool Idea - For Techno and Hip Hop people.

Post by Sharp »

Hi all.

This is effect works for both Techno and Hip Hop.
Rather than just uploading one style of music, I’m actually going to give you a chance to listen to whichever interests you most.

Techno Heads… download this.
http://www.korgforums.com/support/tutor ... -bends.mp3

Hip Hop Heads….download this.
http://www.korgforums.com/support/tutor ... -bends.mp3

What I want to get across in this demo is that you don’t need Decks to scratch, and for Techno Heads, if your mixing your tunes this will make you sound like a Pro DJ. If you listen to any of the files above you will hear me totally screwing around with the Pitch of a Drum Loop, however the Tempo / BPM will never alter.

It’s a perfectly timed effect that NEVER goes out of Sync / time because of the way I have pulled this effect off. And that is to stay away from Audio / Samples. (you can use sample though…read below)

Right, what you need to do is sequence your Drum Loop. Then to page 2 SEQ mode and alter the Pitch value from 2 to 24.

Now just play back your loop and start screwing around with the Ribbon and Joystick. Note how you can make it look like your scratching, but yet the loop NEVER goes out of time. It will always stay constant.

If you DO wish to use External Samples, then read my Time Slice Tutorial in the Classic Threads section because that explains how to get a sample diced up into Midi Data. Once you do that you can apply this “Tip” to your external sample loop. Easy as that.

I highly recommend messing around with this idea because it can produce some fantastic results. Those writing Hip Hop sound be all over this idea like a rash. This is giving you guys back some of that raw sound of the decks without the timing issues.

Give it ago. It’s great.

Regards.
Sharp.

I can't tell you how much I love this effect on the techno one!

I love techno beats and always wanted to do something about them. You just inspired me! :D It's so simple yet so effective!!!!!

I should have found this post so much earlier, I would have done something with it for my previous techno stuff. But late better than never as they say 8)

Thanks Sharp... All the best!

Hi Sharp, any chance of making the MP3s live again as this looks interesting - there has been some debate on Synthzone recently about the ability to produce hip hop on a PA1X (or any arranger for that matter).

Those are the most obscene/canned beats I've ever heard, but the effects are pretty spiffy!
