EMX's in Hot live XXXX action

Post by Cry UFO »

Just if anyone is interested my live (all hardware) band HUF performing at a show recently on our 'tape invasion tour' (our first release we decided to do a cassette tape :D ) and a friend chucked together a 2min teaser vid from one of the shows.

http://vimeo.com/45034997

The track is from a recording we did for our EP, we record everything live in one take the only thing over dubbed is the vocals.

Annnd for the gear blah blah

I use two EMX’s (tubes changed out for JJ Hi-performance) I have my tube gain set to 100%
A Kpro mostly set on the beat repeater with the L/R of one of the EMX going through it and the 2nd EMX synth parts are sent out L/R to the KP2. I send the main drums out 3/ 4 so I can EQ (savagely) on the desk.
I use a MIDI thru box to send MIDI to the Slim Phatty and MoPho from the EMX’s …
and the other dude (I’m the one with the beard) uses some devi ever pedals, bitrman, carbon copy and boss reverb thing for his auxiliary channel on his vocals … plus a sp404 for some random noise samples and the monotribe for SPX and blips etc .. oh and a micron which I send MIDI too ….

and Cider .. we usually drink alot of cider

Nice! Always good to see what people can do live with the Electribe.

Hey Chad, I liked Stem & Leaf -- where do you perform live?

Chur for the ‘sweet as’ too bruv!

Yea man it’s nice to have a vocalist! People respond really well to it I think it becomes more accessible in a live situation cause it’s easier for people relate to (in my opinion).
Mostly people ( in NZ) just assume you’re DJ’n or something like that .. until they see all the flashing lights at least.
Be keen as to hear/see your stuff with a vocalist

Having a vocalist definitely adds a huge element to live performances. I haven't played any live gigs yet cos right before my first one was scheduled work went and pissed in my cornflakes. a mate of mine is well established on his EMXs and has played some events with a female jazz singer. I might work with them both in future. Here in South Africa a lot of people don't even get it when they see the flashing lights. He often gets questions like "what kind of dj controller is that?.. And where is your laptop hidden?" Or "is that some kind of fancy mp3 player?" Haha

I've only recorded one track with a vocalist during a jam session I had, was just a short improv sketch.

turned out well for a first timer and will be doing more stuff in future along similar lines

Hey hazabikit -- sorry I just saw your post. You're still near DC right? I'm playing mostly out of town gigs for the next couple of months, I'll post them to my band page (Facebook, search "dubathonic"). In case you don't FB I'll PM you.
