Want Background Audio? JB!

And I don't mean Jenson Button!
Korg seems always to stop one or two steps shy of perfection, and their apps are no exception. As a huge fan of the Kpro I was equally excited by the iKaossilator, but discouraged that it could not continue playing while backgrounded. Then I stumbled across a Youtube vid demonstrating a tweak for jailbroken ios called "Backgrounder" in which ims20 was minimized allowing live manipulation by Step poly arp, and I realized that I had finally found a compelling reason to jailbreak.
The courts have determined that jailbreaking devices that are owned by you is perfectly legal. Quite ridiculous that the evil army of Apple attorneys would even suggest otherwise, but Apple's pitiful walled garden mentality and lack of respect for the intelligence of their user base makes this not surprising in the least. If you jailbreak you will void your warranty, a condition that I accept - especially since it is quite simple to return to the stock OS if things go wrong.
I had to read quite a bit before I felt confident to do the deed, but it was not difficult. I found that by doing a backup, then a reset, then applying the jailbreak worked best.
With the jailbreak applied I restored my apps and then applied a single cydia tweak - Backgrounder. And it works brilliantly! Perfectly with Korg apps, and with about 80% of all other music apps! Funk yeah! With just iKaossilator and Thumb Jam I am a performance dynamo, and so many other apps that were cute but not useful to me are now being reassesed as part of a massively fun live rig, and I couldn't be happier. And except for the presence of cydia, nothing else about the ipad seems at all different, including the app store. Rock on!
