Additional sounds for Triton Studio

Post by Kwooz »

Where can I buy more sounds to add onto my Korg Triton Studio? (unless I'm mistaken and this is not possible). Specifically, I'd like a Moog or Minimoog sound, but I welcome any ideas for more sounds. Thanks!

Kwooz,

It is indeed possible to get new sounds in your Triton.

But "Sounds" can mean a couple of things.

Internally, sounds are dependent on the ROM. Sound developers use the various sample waves to generate new (or old) sounds. If you HAVE to buy there are plenty of 3rd party sound developers willing to take your money.

Before you do that you might want to look at the download section here and run through a few hundred sounds to see if there's something FREE that might satisfy you. Triton and Triton Rack .pcg (program) files will work in the Studio just fine.

You may also want to consider expanding your ROM with EXB-PCM boards. I recommend you look for 005-Vintage Archives and 009-Trance Attack - those two being the ones with the highest percentage of synth waves to use in creating sounds. Either of those would give you new sound possibilities including some Moog emulations. And they are instantly accessible; no loading or other steps required before using. They just extend the available ROM waves.

You can also add in a MOSS board which, while not a Moog-on-a-card, is still very capable of generating new moog-y lead sounds for you.

Finally, you could look for "genuine" Moog samples and put them into your Triton; you'll need to do some groundwork so you know what formats to get and how to get samples loaded into the board in the correct place and order to work for you.
