What would it take to create better electric guitars & basses for the kronos & why isnt there more focus on those sounds there's already tons of piano/string libraries & they keep creating more please explain. 8)

because it's a lot of work to get the articulations right, which is the core of making a realistic sound. Case in point, BasariStudios posted a link to one a few weeks back and you were pretty quick to s**t all over it in his thread. So if an experienced programmer like him has issues, imagine what the more amateur one will have.

How is the guitar sample import from your old Ensoniq coming along? You were pretty adamant that it was better than anything you've heard from the Kronos, so I would have assumed that you would put a bit of effort into converting it. Or are you looking for someone to do the work for you for free?

Its ALL about EQ! The simple fact is that the low strings on a real guitar or bass are much thinner sounding than what's typically reflected in keyboard based emulation patches. The Kronos guitars are actually pretty good....but they are way too full and booming. Most of the problem exists in the low register. You should be thinking thin bass frequencies, and accentuated mid-range frequencies, when you EQ these patches. Additionally, real guitar/bass strings have quite a bit of metallic resonance in their tone. Adding some ring modulation to the patch can bring this out....but its an undertone, not prominent. With any distortion in the patch...adding a secondary sine wave to the patch can bring quite a bit of expression and harmonics. I just wrote about this in another thread here: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... 2&start=15

As far as Basari those guys r great i was just watching some of there youtube stuff. I would gladly pay 4 great guitars & basses I just think my Kronos should have them in it out of the box. I paid just like most people 4 my Kronos & it wasnt cheap. 8)

shouldn't all software, esp software libs be free ? Heck, I play free video games, so I feel entitled to free software, too

jeebustrain I forgot 2 tell u I bought a Ensoniq soundfont package from digitalsoundfactory but the soundfonts r banks not individual soundfonts. I thought i could put those soundfonts n my Kronos but again they r sf2 banks. Is there a way 2 get them n the Kronos 8)

Hey gregc any input on better guitars & basses 4 the Kronos this isnt about free sounds but about better guitars & basses 4 the Kronos so please everyone let's stay on the topic of better guitars & basses 4 the Kronos. The 1s that aren't staying on topic have another agenda. 8)

Very soon i will be releasing a new Sampled Set of Electric Guitars for Kronos.
The Distorzia Set will probably have some Custom GEs too. Everything will be
Unlooped with mostly Distorded and Overdriven Guitars.

You know, I have a Motif XS rack, and I do hear that you can get to what you're after with the Motif guitar presets with a lot less work. But I also hear that *solo'ed*, the Motif guitars sound less "attractive" than the Kronos guitar presets. Yet....they are more true to form, from the authentic instruments they seek to emulate. Bottom line is....whoever designed Kronos guitar presets seemed more interested in creating big full dynamic sounding presets, rather than authentic emulations that sit well in a mix.

That's pretty true across the board for me when comparing the Motif sound to the Kronos sound. Kronos sounds huge and lush....where Motif sounds sharp and fundamental. Sometimes thats a good thing and vice versa on each unit. For many users....presets is where its at. And digging in and editing patches is not comfortable or time efficient. But if you get down to the core guitar samples on Kronos, and tweak the patches slightly (particularly the EQ settings), there is not so much of a difference between the Motif sound and the Kronos sound.

The thing is...it takes some work (and perhaps knowledge). I find the Motif sound to be a workhorse of bread and butter sounds. And that's why its done so well for many years. The Kronos is something much more and different. Kronos is a synthesis arsenal of tones and sound design. For what ever reason....Korg sound designers just weren't thinking "bread and butter" when they designed many of Kronos presets. Even the wonderful Pianos, in my experience and use, need some tweaking to work in the mix....yet they sound vast and grand when solo'ed on the showroom floor. Maybe that's the point.

The thing with a Kronos, in my view....its not JUST a workstation keyboard for gigging and recording.....its more than that! Its a sound design platform with more in depth architecture than any hardware competitor in existence to date. You're either going to use those tools to manipulate the sounds and tones on the Kronos....or your stuck with a certain "style" of presets, of which some are great and some others are less practical for live or studio mixes. Its like owning a Ferrari, but never going over 65 miles per hour. Whats the point!?!

I concur, Kronos could use some new guitar *presets*, but its more than capable of creating them. Of course, its a sampler too.....so as it relates to add-in sample libraries...well, the world is your oyster (once those are developed and released...which I guess was the OP's point). But frankly, I don't feel like I need a sample library to get good guitar tones on Kronos. In fact, I feel you can create good ANYTHING within the Kronos architecture, if you set your mind to it. Its THAT diverse and deep. JMHO of course. :?

Around 650MB of Guitar Samples only...is it worth it? The Space to Quality Ratio.
