Hi all,
Apologies if this is a stupid question but is there a way of backing up patches i have created in iMS20?
I've managed to lose all my personally crafted patches twice now and had to start from scratch again each time, there must be a way to back them up surely?

Hi there,
Are you asking about the sounds you have generated ?
If so you simply save them under the SOUND PRESET window towards the top right of the screen.
Hit the SAVE button and it will prompt you to name your patch.
You can then recall it at any time to use in future songs and patterns.
Hope that helps

No I have saved many patches. The problem has been when I connected my iPad to my computer: it updated and wiped my install of ims20 and reset everything so I lost all my saved patches. Other software such as imaschine gives you access to a folder on your idevice through itunes where you can copy your saves to your computer. Ims20 doesnt seem to have such a back up option does it? I think I've set the iPad not to sync any more but I want to try and back up before I connect it to a computer again, for safety's sake!!!

Okay, I see what you are saying now.
From what I have seen in the app, I think you are right. User patches are 'saved' within the app and no access is given to them other than to recall them within the app !
This therefore means that once the app is re-installed, all previous data is lost
Although it wont help you right away, it may be worth dropping Korg a line to see if they can help or even suggest it as a future update.........................but don't hold your breath
Cheers,
Krog.

The only way at present it laborious...
Create a Soundcloud account, and upload your tracks there (privately if preferred) making sure you include the "Session File Sharing" is switched on.
Saves time rendering the audio if you have only one bar on loop in the Song sequencer.
You can then re-download with your fresh install of ims20.

If you run Ubuntu (or a version of Linux with Nautilus installed for a file manager) you can backup the whole app (Library, Documents, App Directory, etc). I have done this with apps that don't have proper save features. I have also restored apps the same way. You might be able to download and run a liveCD or liveUSB and back them up that way. Never tried that as I run Linux as my main system.
P.S. I do this on my NON-Jailbroken iPad2 and iPOD 3G.

Could you supply more details about how this works please? Sounds very useful indeed.....
Any choice online resources about backing up non-jailbroken iPads like this?
Thanks!

I will try a liveUSB in the next few days to see if that works as well since that would be the most useful to Windows users and won't force you to change anything on your computer. You would only need a reboot to boot off of the USB.
Here is a link to instructions to make a liveUSB if you can't wait for me.

Ok, I tried the liveUSBs of Ubuntu 12.04 and Ubuntu 12.10. They both work. Remember that you only need to try out the live version and not install it. The default action when you plug your device in is to automatically mount it, so you can just cancel out on the dialog boxes that ask about what you want to do with pictures, etc. The only problem I have backing up certain apps this way is that I can only back up a couple apps at a time. Then it requires me to unmount the Documents on "your ios device name here" folder and remount it to backup a couple more apps. So it isn't perfectly smooth. But most of the time you are only looking at backing up a few apps that don't give you access to their saved data. Make sure the app isn't running in the background or you will get an error about not being able to copy one of the files in the directory.
One final note: You need to make sure that hidden files are being displayed or you will only see the Documents folders for the apps.
Hope that helps.

you could:
Jailbreak and use iFile.
Use iFunbox and a PC (no jailbreak required).
Good luck!

The only thing to note with iFunbox is that you still need iTunes installed to use it.

The same back-up problem exists for iKaossilator. I snail mailed Korg Japan (in nihongo, actually). Korg is posting an update to fix the issue. Check out my post here:
