Microsampler - Radias driver conflict?

Hello,

I've owned a Korg Radias for some time, running it from a Windows7 computer with Cubase Studio 4. I've recently purchased a Microsampler and am experiencing problems connecting it to my laptop.
I've downloaded the Korg 1.1.2 driver and installed it. However,even when Windows is seeing the Microsampler in it's devices list, Cubase 4 doesn't recognise it as a midi device. Even worse, Cubase forgets about the Radias too, something I can only lift by doing a system recovery.

I've tried a few tricks but so far, have been unable to change this. ANyone any ideas?

not sure if this goes for Win7 but from XP the following problem is known (which typically could have not been resolved on W7 like other well known probs)

Each time you connect a MIDI-capable device on a different USB port of your Win-PC, a new MIDI-Port is created (starting with midi0, then midi1, midi2...) and this goes forth (maybe until midi255, who knows).

But WinXP can only handle 10 MIDI ports (midi0 to midi9) so if you have tried connecting several MIDI devices your Ports may be over midi9 and even if Windows says it is installed, any software that uses MIDI wouldn't reach this ports due Windows not being capable of accessing them or providing them to its API.

You can check this using the Korg Driver uninstaller included in the "KORG USB-MIDI Driver Tools". As this has been discused several times in this forum, follow this link to see more about it:

Click the button "Options" and uncheck the option "Delete KORG MIDI devices only" to be able to see (and if needed to delete) all drivers installed.

If this issue is your case, you have to delete all unused ports, and those that are above midi9 and then eventually reinstall your driver which then should be assigned to the next free port.

I also had some issues (even after clearing the unused ports) which I found out to be due a LogiTech webcam driver. This drivers seems to interfere with some MIDI ports (what the f*** has a webcam to do with MIDI). Actually all my LogiTech drivers are banned from my PC.
