Is Cubase still running? Maybe it is not sharing the midi port so the editor doesn't see it connected. Close Cubase and see if the editor picks up the SV-1.

well if Cubase is working properly with the SV-1 then something is odd. I have to assume it is a driver issue possibly- are you running Win 7 or Vista? Are you running the editor in administrator mode?
Can't help you anymore- it works flawlessly and out of the box for me (although I am on Mac

)

Maybe this is an oversimplified question,
But are you connected via USB? Or just strictly MIDI?

Did you uninstall the Korg midi driver, reboot, then do a reinstall (then reboot).

There's quite a lot of threads on here with people having problems getting the editor to work.
Quite a lot of advice in
this thread.
Most people seem to be having problems with 64bit rather than 32bit Win7, though.
I'd definitely try a few different Java versions, and cleaning up your registry, though.
(I have Win7 64bit, and never had a problem, so can't give any first-hand advice on your problems, I'm afraid)

i've searched through the forums for answers berfore i posted this subject, and found none.and iv'e tried diffrent java versions, i think that my problem is specific because i do get a midi signal, cubase works perfectly fine but the editor refuses to recognize the instrument.

Problem solved. (Win 7 64 bit)
After installation of editor, go to C:\Program Files\KORG\SV-1 Editor
in this folder you will see some files. You need to edit a file named
config.xml
In the end of file you will see text

SV1 1 KEYBOARD

SV1 1 SOUND

You have to replace this text by the:

SV1 KEYBOARD

SV1 SOUND

Then save this file, start the editor, and connection between the editor and SV1 will be established.
Any way, you have to open your DAW, look for the name of SV1 midi input and output, and set the same name in the
config.xml file.
