Looks like I have to use the supplied disk to reinstall the factory samples in their proper place on the Kronos HD. Anyone know if this will work?

Yes I have used an external dvd to reset the kronos back to factor state.
Just connect your dvd drive to usb connector switch off kronos wait 10 seconds and switch Kronos back on and hold I think it’s the enter key if that don’t work it the exit button. Your know if it is right when you see on screen information telling you your new operating system being loaded.
The just follow screen menus
Read manual because if you do a clean ie format drive with this installation you need an new authorization from korg.
This information is in the manual

He is asking if that specific dvd is working together with the kronos.
The reason is that the bios erronously doesn't recognizes all dvd-drives on the kronos.
This is fixed in a later bios release but this isn't installed by korg.
I'm running the latest version of the bios w/o any problems on my kronos.
I can't tell if the new kronos-x have a later version of the bios with this bug fixed since I have no access to one.

I'm also looking for a DVD R/W to use with my Kronos, both in case of an emergency restore and for ordinary CD input sampling. So can any users out there comment on specific brands/models of drives that they have used successfully?
I had no idea this little bios bug existed... glad to have this forum around.
