Touchscreen Has Gone South

Post by Fletcher »

Over the past few weeks,I have had to calibrate the touchscreen more than a few times.
Went to calibrate it today and it will only light up top left square.
The calibration is off by about an inch.
If i press any button it will operate the button one inch to the left of it.
Does this sound like the film or the actual lcd that is the problem.
I've contacted a Korg service centre here in Canada and the guy was actually decent to speak with on the phone.
That was after a couple of not so customer oriented calls to two other places.
Anyway,he is going to contact Korg for some parts prices, etc.
Since he is an hour and a half away,we are going to try to work it out that hopefully he can have it fixed while I wait around in town.
The M3 is out of warranty,so I hope this is not going to cost a bundle.
I'll keep you posted.

Had the exact problem. I took a piece of paper and made sure there was nothing between the screen and the sides of the screen. I then took a small pin and repeatedly touched the lowest part of the right-hand bottom square and it finally lit. It took a number of tries, but it worked. I was very persistant. Now, each time I turn on the M3 I calibrate the screen first. Hope it helps. :)

That's what I think also.
I've tried the paper routine.Didn,t work.
Toaday I could calibrate M3,but still had a dead spot on top right corner.
Talked to my Korg service guy today and he is going to order a new film for the touchscreen

Korg Canada does not have part in stock.
It probably will have to come from Korg Japan.
Why do I have a sinking feeling it's going to be a bit of a wait to get m3
repaired.

I just went thru the exact same thing with my touchscreen. My repair shop, in Ohio, ordered the touchscreen part and replaced it. Took 4 weeks and $200 but it works perfectly now.

Thanks for letting me know this.
Korg Canada service has stated that this part is no longer available.
My repair guy emailed them back to get a confirmation on this.
Waiting four weeks would be better than not getting a part at all.
I'm going to wait till the middle of next week to get a final, concrete answer.
Hopefully Japan has them.
Did your repair depot have to get the part from Japan?

Actually, my repair shop told me that Korg DID say this part was no longer available but that they suggested a similar touchscreen part and that it would work fine. And it does. So, the truth is that the M3 original touchscreen is not available anymore, but a replacement that works is available.

Hope that helps. If you keep having trouble I could give you the # of my repair shop and you could call and ask which part # it was the he used to repair mine. (I just got me M3 back less than a week ago)

Yes.Please give me the phone number.
Once I have the part number,I can get things moving.
Nothing like a customer having to do all the leg work.

same happens here for the first time... if i touch the bottom part of the screen i get parameter that are in the middle of the touch screen... and no way to open things near the upper corners.

stuff in the bottom is unreachable too using tuchscreen.

frustrating thing is that in 10 years of trinity (and on the road) i never had a problem at all!

this m3 has always been in my home, never carried out for gig or rehearsal... i am thinking if the tilted position has influence on this issues with touchscreen.

i am going to call korg assistance to see what they say

Yeah the new touch screen part is cheaper then last one too, about $75 bucks, plus $75 of repair labor. It ran me $150, and it works perfect very responsive. Just bring your module to closest korg service place.

i just called assistance: they say to drop them a mail explaining problem, giving SN and so on and then they will arrange for RMA procedure.

my feeling is that they never heard about this problem, at least here in italy.

so, if anyone as a tip i can tell them to fasten the repairing (e.g. which touchscreen to order and stuff like that) is welcome!

i am a korg-user since more than 15 years now, but the last experiences with M50 (freezing problem) and this with M3 is getting me less and less enthusiast of how korg is doing business.

i had trinity, had M1 and X50 for sometimes and never ever had a problem...
M3 was meant to be the flagship when it comes out, not a f*ck*ng cheap toy-keyboard...

It's always the same with the last Korg products. First I'm thinking to buy one but if i search through different forums I will find bad reliability problems. There are many threads about the display problems with the M3. Type Google: Korg M3 display problem

But I still have some questions:

Are this problems only with old and first generation M3s ? Did Korg something to fix that beforehand with newer series? If, which model I have to buy to get a good quality M3 with a display without problems?

If I would buy a new M3-M Xpanded modul from a dealer, will I get the same display problems?

In another thread here I read that the M3 has to place in a flat and not vertical position to prevent display problems, too. So if I like to put a M3 on a Notebook rack, this is not possible because that display will damage ?

Thank you for answer and sorry my english is not the best!

Mine was a 2010 Xpanded model, and the touch screen completely went out, so I don't think they ever changed or fixed the screen. I wouldn't hold back from buying a m3 though, if you buy one under warranty, they will fix if it's broken. If no warranty the new part is only $75.

Also, there is a good majority of people who still havnt had a screen issue, just like with anything sometimes you get a good one, and sometimes a bad.
