Short of putting a bit of black gaffa/electrical tape to cover it, is there a way to turn the tempo LED off ?

Hi François,
in Global P1:MIDI, if you change the MIDI Clock option from Internal to another (External MIDI, External USB) you turn off the blue light of tempo in the front panel of Kronos.

Although unless you are connected to a DAW or some other external clock source, this will screw up all tempo based FX and pretty much everything else like step sequencers and KARMA.

I should have been more precise.
Yes, I found out about the INT/EXT. But like X-Trade mentions, it causes problems in some cases.
So the question is, whilst keeping the Kronos set to INT, can the LED be disabled.
I think not, but it doesn't hurt to ask others to confirm.

I don't think you can turn it off - I have tried to use a pen for whiteboards too try to damp the brightness a little, with mixed results

The reason for turning off the Tempo LED would be...?

...to avoid an unnecessary visual distraction. I can see the need for it when you want it, but if you're not using it, why have something constantly flashing in your peripheral vision.

I just cover it with a small piece of card (not black,though.....) which I can slide to one side whenever I need to see the blinking light.

I didn't notice it until I read your post, now I can't take my pigging eyes off it.
Splodge of blue tack should do the job

Indeed I always appreciate that blinking LED, specially when you're going to play a Combi which starts with a solo, and then you activate KARMA or something like that... without a prior tempo reference, doing so is harder than it should be.
I learned to miss the tempo led with the Yamaha Motif XF (and Motif series in general), which lack such visual indication. There, when you're going to play any Performance, there's no clue for the actual tempo you should use. Even if you don't want to play a Performance and you just want to use a Voice and then enable the arpeggiator, you have issues guessing the correct tempo.
Also, there are more flexible solutions, like Kurzweil: you can enable the visual indication and it even shows you different ticks or Access: you can set brightness of the led and you can even have a back led show the tempo for the rest of the bandmates

OK, I've found a method to stop the LED blinking, but it only works for one beat every two. So it's on, then off, then on, etc.
I'm still looking for a method to stop the LED blinking for the other beat

try using a bookmark tab - office supply marker used to mark locations in books etc Get a dark coloured one. They can be flipped up out of the way to see the led. You may need to replace the tab marker every once in a while but they do not cost very much.

If your someone who suffers from migraines, epilepsy etc, flashing lights can be a real problem.
The colour of the Kronos one makes it stand out much more that the one on my Extreme
Maybe a bit of clear red (or similar) plastic over it, so that it's still visible but not so in your face?

Might I ask the opposite question.
Are there a simple way to make the LED been more visible ?
I found it practical sometimes when we are practicing with our band to set the tempo on different songs.
I know this should be the drummers job, but I already have it ready under my hands ( exept if I am using a patch/program that require a programmed tempo).

Get a midi light controller or as I've heard others do it, route click out of something other than main outputs that go to an in ear mix.
Or get whimsical - put an iPad camera over the led and zoom in on the shot.
I'd stick with a midi based method though. Lots of ways to skin that cat.
