Now, i've been experimenting with kronos' sgx piano (particularly german grand) for a few months, and i've formulated a new piano sound that were suited to my ears.. Sounded rich, mellowish - dark, full, and whatever you could call it
please select kronos german grand program first (i add this line after finishing this topic, sorry, you'll know the purpose later).
1. first AND FOREMOST (especially to weighted kronos user), go to global, and set the velocity curve to 9 (recommended for piano sounds --> korg said), but after a few months i've find it still produce a pretty thin piano sounds, so i decided to switch the curve to 3..
i said foremost, because using curve 4 will give you that youtube sounds --> bright and brittle and thin. also avoid using curve 5-6-7, and curve 2 and 1, it's too heavy..
2. now, select your piano character as your basis..
Personally i'm using german dark II. i prefer more dark sound. but if you don't prefer dark sound, you can use german d2, because we are going to make it darker anyway..
Thanks to mihmix and danatkorg, for more realism, you should choose piano with 's' ending on it's name (ex: german dark II s), because it's stretch tuned like real pianos..
3. tweaking the parameter
1. Piano lid position = from range 40-60
2. velocity bias to 40 (i found that the velocity switching on kronos are too linear.. this suits most to my ear)
3. damper resonance, i use +4, but if it's too intense, use +2 instead.. i think it's this parameter that actually makes SGX feels like real grand when you press the sustain pedal.
4. the IFX
By selecting kronos german grand, you'll automatically see that the output is routed to stereo parametric eq (if i recall it right).. If you prefer more bass to kick in to add fullness to it, you could activate it just the way it is..
DO NOT FORGET to add reverb to the routing.. i add reverb after the stereo parametric eq ( is it matter?? ) , if i recall right (i'm not on kronos now), i use reverb small hall with small concert hall
it should do it.. i'll edit my post later if i miss something.. hope you enjoy it
