Kaossilator 2 DC 4,5V Mains Power Supply Alternatives? USB?

Post by gektor »

Kaossilator 2 needs 4,5V DC. There are many universal DC Adapters that can provide this Voltage.

I would like to know, how tolerant the Kaossilator 2 is. Perhaps one could even use USB Power, perhaps with a small resistor.

Has anyone made some Tests with different DC Power Adapters?

Can someone who owns an original KORG DC Adapter measure it's exact Voltage? Is it really 4,5V?

Thank you!

You could use a slightly resisted USB power source, or even two AA batteries. I wouldn't recommend going over the 4.5V, but I know you can go as low as 3V. It gives you a warning, but it works for a LOOONG time.

The exact voltage fluctuates a bit as it's not the most accurate thing in the world, but it stays around 4.5V for the most part.

Thank you!

I think, I'lll try to build a resisted USB Cable.

The USB Power adapters are really small nowadays, much smaller than the KORG adapter.

I also have one of those small USB Power Banks, which is actually a rechargeable Lithium Battery for the go.

By the way: the Lithium Polymer Batteries for RC Stuff are quite cheap and one cell delivers 4,2 Volt when fully charged and it can be discharged to ca. 3 Volt safely. Perhaps I'll try this out too.

You'll want to watch the amperage, as it may be too low. Otherwise, good luck!
