MicroKorg XL and Sound-Editor with Windows 7 -Now SOLVED

Hi,
I’m hoping a member can help with my inability to connect together the ‘MicroKorg XL’ to the ‘Korg SoundEditor’ program which is held on my desktop PC. The computer has Windows 7 Enterprise edition installed with all the latest MS service packs etc. I’ve installed the latest Korg USB-MIDI driver software utility and configured it, but try as I may, I cannot get them to communicate with each other by either direct USB cable, or using a powered ‘MIDI to USB interface’ with MIDI 1 in + 1 out cable. ( 2 x midi plug + 1 x USB plug.)

For reference, I’ve installed without a single problem the same pieces of Korg software on my laptop, which has ‘Windows Vista Home Edition’ installed, and they were up and running in under ten minutes.

Even though I have them running perfectly on MS Vista, I’ve again carefully referred to MicroKorg XL manual and the connectivity settings required on my MicroKorg XL, plus the same specific page 4 settings identified below within the manuals which support the SoundEditor v MkXL_Editor_100E

ie:- Settings on the microKORG XL In order to use microKORG XL Sound Editor, follow the procedure below to make the necessary settings on the microKORG XL. 1. Set the [KNOB FUNCTION SELECT] dial to “FULL EDIT,” and use knob [1] to select the “GLOBAL” page. Use knob [2] to select “PROTECT,” and set knob [3] to “OFF.” 2. Use knob [1] to select “MIDI FLT” page. Use knob [2] to select “SYS EX”, and set knob [3] to “ENABLE”.& the latest driver listed as ‘KorgUSB-MIDI_DRV_PC_1_14r4.’

I have done the usual software Uninstall / re install / reboot etc, allowed the programs through the Windows Firewall, disabled my Anti-Virus software, created and operated within a new partition on my PC hard-drive with a new copy of Windows 7 plus updates installed there, but nothing helps.

I’ve installed ‘MIDIOX’ software onto the PC with Windows 7 installed and that reports a “There are No MIDI input Devices” window. Suspecting a USB problem, and to test each of the 4 USB inputs, I connected my Yamaha Tyros 4 keyboard to those inputs. MIDIOX sees that keyboard OK. Also any of the PC’s USB sockets will connect the Tyros 4 to my Mixcraft 6 editing software which kind of eliminates a USB fault. As a further test I used the ‘MIDI to USB interface’ cable with MIDI 1 in + 1 out and that worked just fine for the Tyros and Mixcraft too.

The MicroKorg XL and my Yamaha Tyros 4 keyboard will play between themselves via MIDI, as a ‘slave’ or ‘master’, dependent upon their MIDI Transmit / Receive configurations. That too should eliminate either as culprit.

At a guess, I would say there’s a blockage of communication between my MicroKorg XL and my desktop PC with Windows 7 installed, with this pointing in the KorgUSB-MIDI_DRV_PC_1_14r4 driver’s direction or maybe an obstacle in the Microsoft Windows 7 camp??

Please, can any ‘super-whizz’ member throw some light on this issue, I don’t really want to use my Windows Vista laptop as the only way of editing my MicroKorg XL.

I apologise for this very long winded post, it’s sometimes more helpful to give a little extra info than less.

Cheers,
John

I've managed to solve my post above by sheer determination and experimentation. My particular area of non-connectivity between my MicroKorg XL and my destop PC lay with the Windows 7 configuration and NOT the Korg SoundEditor drivers.

Regards to all,

John

Well, installation under Win7 64bit went without any hassles.
