New free and small Windows utility for Kronos, called PCGrid

I've created a utility called PCGrid, which gives you a quick overview of multiple PCG files at once.
The main window is organized as a grid: horizontally you can see the banks (I-A to U-GG), vertically you see the PCG file names.
Each cell contains a number which represents how many patches are filled in that bank in that file.
The idea is that you can use this PCGrid utility together with the excellent PCG Tools utility from michelkeijzers.
With PCGrid, you first get an overview of your current banks in files, and with PCG Tools you can then combine/compact/reorganize these PCG files.

Some of PCGrid's features:
  • * Show in a grid the filled Program, Combi, Wave sequence and Drumkit banks for multiple files
    * Browse all banks (view the patch names, view combi timbres, etc.)
    * Search for patch names across all opened PCG files
    * Compare any two banks to find differences/same patches
These features are described in a user manual that is included.

Notes:
  • * Unlike PCG Tools, PCGrid is developed for Kronos only. It does NOT support the other Korg synth models.
    * However I found that most features also work for Oasys, but not all. I've made the utility 'tolerate' Oasys files.
    * PCGrid is available for Windows only, it requires .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile.
    * There is no installer for PCGrid, it´s just the executable.
    * It is known to run on Windows XP SP3, and on Windows 7.
    * Possibly you need to unblock the file on Windows 7 because of a security restriction.
    * The program has some quircks, mentioned in the manual, but I think the workarounds are acceptable.
Important notes to clarify expectations:
  • * I do not plan to extend this PCGrid utility. Ever. It is finished the way it is now.
    * I don't offer support. I hope PCGrid works for you, but I don't intend to actively keep inspecting the forums for questions. Sorry for that in advance.
This being said, I hope that PCGrid is useful to you.

The zipfile which includes an exe and a pdf is located at:

Kind regards,

I checked this tool during the weekend and it works great.

It's a breeze to easily navigate through a lot of data in a PCG file.

It's nice to have members like you and michelkeijzers who help us organize our Kronos Patch List.

first impression - awesome! Thanks for this. This goes a long way to giving that "studio view" perspective of what al the pcgs hold. Definitely a great step in the right direction.

Useful tool, thank you very much for sharing!

The Korg community is an often really surprisingly active pool of creative ideas and great sharing offers, ranging from practical help over additional sounds up to utilities!

I'm afraid Mac users are mostly no programmers... I have the same 'issue' with PCG Tools ... enough people requesting PCG Tools and now PCGrid for Mac, but no Mac programmer who can/wants to spend time in porting it.

What are they written in? I have written something very similar to PCGrid for myself that runs on mac/iOS - with the exception being I initially output the program/combi info from PCG Tools and it keep it in a sqlite db- it can't read pcg files. My main purpose was to be able to find things quickly without scrolling through touch screen menus to find for example a piano sound I know is available, but don't know where.

Ed, it would be great if you could port them to the Mac!!!
