HELP HELP

Post by charlojay »

I RECENTLY TRIED TO RESET MY KORG TRINITY V3. DURING THE PROCESS THE FLOPPY DISK GOT STUCK IN THERE AND I HAD TO POWER OFF THE KEYBOARD TO RETRIEVE THE DISK. WHEN I POWER ON THE KEYBOARD NOW IT ONLY GIVES ME A BLANK SCREEN. WHEN I TRY TO RESET IT, IT SAYS PLEASE INSERT BOOT DISK. WHEN I INSERT THE DISK 1 IT SAYS PLEASE RETRY SYSTEM LOAD...NOT A SYSTEM DISK. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT.

JOEL.... :( [/b]

Trinity rescue

Post by pauly-d »

 What do you mean by reset?

Go to KORG's website and download the OS. It should recover your Trinity.

***WARNING-when loading the os do not touch anything and do not turn off the power!
Doing so will render it completly useless.***

Anyway, report back on its status. If successful we can discuss calibrating the
controllers  , otherwise we can talk parts  .

Thank you so much for your quick response.
It's a used one I recently bought. And since the previous owner mentioned that he had changed some settings to suite himself I thought I should have restored it to factory default. Is it possible for you to paste the link to the OS on here for me? I'll let you know what the outcome is as soon as I try it.

Thanks
Joel

Scroll down to where it says "RESULTS FOR: TRINITY" and click on "Operating System".

For your Trinity V3 you will need OS version 3.1.1, so download either:

PC: Operating System:TrinityV3_311.zip

or..

Apple Mac: Operating System:TrinityV3_311.sea

... depending on the computer you have.

Read the installation instructions very, very carefully before installing anything. Follow the instructions to the letter, and do not touch or do anything else. There is a very real chance you may kill the Trinity if you do anything untoward whilst doing so.

You will need two HD 1.44 Mb floppy disks to extract the data from your PC, before using them to install the Trinity V3 OS.

Restore Factory Sounds (Data)

Post by pauly-d »

Download the manual and the preload disks too.

Use new floppies for the operating system to be safe, you don't want any other data of
any kind on it!

*** ENSURE YOU DISCONNECT ALL MIDI PORTS, SCSI CONNECTION , EXTERNAL CLOCK
CONNECTION & ALL HDR-RECORDER JACKS. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ON THE TRINITY. ANY DISTRACTION TO THE PROCESSOR IN THIS DELICATE STATE WILL CAUSE IT TO "LOSE IT'S MIND", NEVER TO RETURN.***

I lost mine, know of two more, don't lose yours.

As far as restoring factory sounds use the PCG file.
And a peice of advice for any disk/OS based device be careful in what data you feed it.

I would never believe that it would be so difficult to find a PC that still has a floppy drive. As soon as I do find one and has the data on a disk I will post my status...

Much thanks guys

You can buy external floppy disk drives with a USB connector really cheaply (about $10-15 CAD new).

Also useful for quickly swapping data from Trinity to PC or vice versa.

Trinity floppy drive

Post by pauly-d »

:?: the floppy drive on that trinity may have issues. It may need to be swapped out. It's not clear how the floppy got 'stuck'.

I'm currently fixing up another abused trinity and test some drives on it. If you still need help let us know.

Just to be perfectly clear: you have executed Dsk311_1.bat and Dsk311_2.bat to get the OS on the disks, right? Have not copied anything to the disks yourself or formatted them, correct? You must create the disks exactly as described in the accompanying TXT file, as it needs to be prepared in a special way that normal DOS format and copy commands can't do.

If you did that and the Trinity still fails, I suggest to take the drive out of your Trinity and connect it to the PC, do some testing with it (format/read/write - get perhaps an FDD testing program from the internet) and then use that drive to create the disk again. It should be able to read it in the Trinity, then.

If the FDD drive fails, use one from a regular PC - again, it is best to create the disks with the FDD that you'll be using in the Trinity to read them.

That's excellent news. :) Sounded a little glum at first.

I've placed the Trinity V3 factory soundsets and demo songs online for you if you don't already have them:

http://infekted.org/korg/TrinityV3-PCG+SNG.zip

Extract them to a couple of floppies.

PCG files contain the Program and Combination presets, as well as Global settings (hence PCG).
SNG files are the songs.

The "P_LOAD1" PCG file is what the Trinity ships with, so that would be the first one to check out along with the P_LOAD1.SNG songs. Check out the song called * The Sorcerer * from the P_LOAD1.SNG file. It's made by Stephen Kay (creator of KARMA) here on the forums, it'll blow you away.

Enjoy.

Any Q's, ask away. :)
