changing octave of manual bass...flabbergasted!
Hi,
I recently purchased a PA3X, upgrading from a PA800. One of the main reasons for this upgrade is that I like to play a lot of manual bass and 76 keys is great for that. However, when I go into manual bass mode it is always an octave lower than I need it to be ( I am happy with a natural low E like that found on any 4 string bass guitar).
The only way I have been able to fix this is to go into the settings for the sounds and drop the bass by an octave. The problem with this is that when I want to go back into auto bass(lower) mode, the style now plays the bass an octave higher!!
Is there some workaround?

Thanks for the reply Reuben,
more like an 8 string bass though! Seems daft. your right, the reason they have overlooked this is that in a 61 note model it would be a non issue, but they have the pa2x pro, and pa3x so this is crazy Its the most unprofessional oversight I have ever seen on a keyboard this deep!

I'm curious why the extra keys for manual bass are bothering you. Is it because you have your split point set lower down than standard and therefore you are running short of the higher bass notes in Manual Bass mode? If this is the case then you might be able to store a different split point under an STS and choose this just before you go into Manual Bass.

I'm with you mikeynyuk. I too tried to find parameters to shift octave, apply sustain or indeed alter anything to do with the preset manual bass sounds.
I have finished up just making a load of keyboard split sounds with the lower as a bass sound, but it would have been so handy to have access to alter the manual basses

Hi,
I also believe that all Korg styles has been designed to work well with 61 keys versions, that's anyway the majority of the models available in the catalogue.
I agree that this may look a little strange in the 76 versions, where the 4 strings bass will fit naturally in the low E key, but since the same style it is sometimes available in different models preload (say Pa3X and Pa600, Pa2X and Pa800/500) and that styles can be easily exchanged between different models this looks anyway like a safe solution to work with.
Just my 0,001%.
Cheers

Just a thought, it may give some ideas ...
After splitting the keyboard you can set the lower range (say the lower octave and a bit on the 76-note keyboard) to play bass on an unused MIDI channel (i.e. that is unused by the styles) and you can set the upper range to generate chords. So by assigning the lower range to a bass instrument, you can have the benefit of playing walking bass whenever you like.
Just use the bass slider to "mute" the auto-bass when you want to walk it.
Then you can use both hands in the upper keyboard range to generate chords - playing in "pianist" mode - it's good practice anyway and is what I normally do myself.
Regards,
Rob

Though I also use manual bass in Pa3X 76 in natural bass expansion with excellent results , in your case there are two options.mikeynyuk wrote:Hi,

Is there some workaround?
1) The easy way , which is creating an STS with left hand bass in proper octave and required split , and instead of manual
bass you have to mute bass track or minimize the assignable track volume slider.
2) The hard but ordinary way , where you have to modify style in record mode, transpose all var/fill/CVs bass tracks
an octave higher and then in style mode transpose bass track -1 and save style in User/Favorite (if Factory one).
In that case you will archive the desired manual octave while style will play as in it's original form in auto mode.
