Using Nanopad2 to trigger mp3 files

Greetings!
I am very new to this session and I have a Nanopad2 coming in the mail. I am thinking of using it to trigger sound effects for a play and I was wondering what would be the best software to do this. Samples will be either wav files or mp3 files.
I would like to investigate free and paid software.
