"New Other" Kronos 61 on ebay for < $1,800?

Post by bchorng »

I was looking for a used Kronos 61 on ebay and was surprised to see so many "New Other" items for extremely low prices. They come in original box/manual with factory warranty. Although sellers never elaborated on what they meant by "New Other". Per eBay standard that means the item is new but may not have the original packaging.

I have actually asked a seller if he could tell me more about what he meant by "New Other", but he never replied.

On the same search page, you will also see normal new items listed for over $3,200 or even used items for well over $2,700. The contrast does look odd.

Are these refubs? Why are there so many of them? Is Kronos prone to have problems? I have used Triton before but have no knowledge about Kronos.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge in advance!

If the price sounds too good to be true and the seller doesn't reply to you then I'd be less concerned about the condition of the Kronos and more concerned about if there is even a Kronos! Unfortunately there are a lot of scams on eBay and if the seller isn't responding to a possible buyer then something smells fishy to me.

I bought my Korg Kronos 73 from Proaudiostar music on ebay for $2000. It was listed as "new other". What I did receive was basically a brand new Kronos in the plastic with retail box, all disks and other materials. I did email them and ask what the description meant, and they replied that it was either a used as a demo at like a Namm show or the box was only opened to show a customer. Proaudiostar is an authorized Korg internet dealer, so I felt pretty safe buying one.

1800$ even for a new Kronos is not shocking anymore. People buy Kronos X
for 2300-2400$ brand new. I don't think this is to good to be true. Its a normal
price nowaday, it can be found in many places.

You are right Nedim. However, I kind of get excited when I see prices like that. It tempts me to pick up one. My K61 is kinda maxed out for 3rd party libraries, however iffffff......I sold some of my audio gear then I could...

I'm fighting the temptation right now. I wouldn't mind having a second Kronos to add some of the quality 3rd party stuff like your Distorzia guitar
set and more Karo, Kid Nepro and Sharp's assault. Your Distorzia set maxed me out---it is very cool sounding, BTW.

These Kronos' are so flexible with the almost endless array of quality sounds + the ssd capacity. Having 2, that is a nice thought. :) :)

 you guys are really lucky when you see the prices, here in europe the prices are much higher for a new kronos X (almost 100% more).

for instance:
The new price of the kronos X 66 keys in europe is: 4332 dollar
The new price of the kronos X 88 keys in europe is: 5282 dollar

It's really incredible that there is such a price difference between the usa and european countries.

The price isn't what makes this deal seem dodgy. It's the fact that the eBay seller doesn't respond to prospective buyers.

For that price you could fly to the US and buy one. Open it and play at some 'gig' or run a workshop, return to the Netherlands and claim its a tool of your profession? Claim the trip on your tax return too.

If most people did this they might drop the price in EU.

The price difference is outrageous.

i consider lack of response a red flag. I have my own online business and it is a business sin to ignore a potential customer

Absolutely, especially if you're a small business or just a private seller.
