Korg announces Electribes ENX/ESX discontinued.

Looks like it's the end of the line, but at least you can still find them on eBay if you really got to have one. Technology moves on, and sometimes it's time for the R&D team to build a new machine. If they're not going to, then the Minitribe and The Volcas are going to be our new tools.
But let's hope they do plan to build a better electribe.

Gutted
Sad but not unexpected. Best build/looks/image of the entire Korg family, IMHO but such is progress.
I guess the Volca series is the EMX successor - so perhaps they intend to add a Volca sampler as well. If they don't -as they have discontinued the MicroSampler - they have a hole to plug in their range.
If there is a Volcasampler - price of all 4 Volcas should come in at around £500 - cheaper than the EMX/ESX combo - and analog.
Rather have it all in one box myself though - perhaps I could knock up a case with wooden endcaps....

Just got an ESX-1SD last week. I'm very happy to own one - it's a very unique and capable concept in an exceptionally attractive package. Korg discontinuing the series is not going to change anything about that
I really recommend everyone who is into hardware sequencing to track one down before they become super rare.

I don't see the Volca's replacing the EMX, even when all 3 are connected together (and even if there was a sampler). To me its just a cut down analog version. Maybe I'm wrong but Korg must have something else in mind as the EMX successor. Maybe they want you to move to the King Korg.lloydsmith wrote:I guess the Volca series is the EMX successor - so perhaps they intend to add a Volca sampler as well. And yes ... all of them in one case would be nice too.

Agreed Volca is restricted , King Korg won't cover th sampling of course
All they have for that is the KP3 or Kronos now.
Must say I find their new products limited in appeal. Even the hallowed MS20 mini - not in part due to build - Sonicstate video clearly shows its wobbly pots.
The Electribe always felt solid.
I hope you are right & they have something else lined up & it is properly put together.

This looks like a false alarm. The Smart Media versions, EMX-1 and ESX-1, are listed on the Korg Japan discontinued page:
http://www.korg.co.jp/Product/Discontinued/
But they were discontinued when the SD versions, EMX-SD and ESX-SD, were released a couple of years ago. The SD versions are still listed on the Korg Japan Dance product page
http://www.korg.co.jp/Product/Dance/
So it looks like they're still alive and kicking (for now).
