Post by kellykeys »

I have a Triton and have about 250 songs sequenced for it....I tried using the GM standard drums on the Kronos and they sound so wimpy compared to the Triton GM drums....Sounds like all the drums on the kronos are pitch higher..I'm looking for some good thick Rock and Roll drum sounds. I want to set the GM sounds on my Kronos to match the Triton...Can anybody give me any ideas??? Wish I could just transfer the standard GM kit over to the Kronos...If there's a way, please let me know...Love the Kronos, but the rock drums are weak!!!

I had the Triton too. I recall the drums had more FX and possibly EQ

that might be the diff on the Kronos- how FX/eq are used

Kronos and triton drums

Post by JPROBERTLA »

I also have many sequences that I have been moving from the Triton to the Kronos for the past 18 months. The instrument voicing gave me a lot more trouble than the drums. The Kronos drums need to be tuned up +12 to work with GM drum maps. The Kronos drums are actually very good. The major problem is that they usually require 4-5 FXs. In sequencer mode I cannot dedicate that many FX to the drums, so there are two options. Record the drums to an audio track (which I don't like doing for a number of reasons) or using one or two FXs for the drum track (usually the second compressor in the drum set's FX pcg and/or a limiter) with either a global reverb (MX1 or MX2) or route them through another output and use an outboard reverb. I prefer the second way because you have much better control of the drum track when it is separated from the rest of the sequence. Hope this helps.

Most BASS .smf tracks on the Kronos I have used for cover songs have been too low, so I have created custom programs pitched one octave up. With GM drum track conversions, I have made a few custom sampled kits from the Triton by scratch that the individual hits match the patterns from the Triton .smf so they fit when played back. Now whenever I load a .smf into the Kronos I select my programs that will easily work for it & they play nicely :D
