(Dumb) Questions from a New User

Off the bat I am pretty frustrated with the incomplete nature of the manual. I have some very basic questions that it doesn't seem to cover:
1. Loop Mode. I read about this online, where you can adjust the KP3's sample triggering mode. I would like to know what the (4 I think) modes do and HOW TO CHANGE THEM. I need the sample loops to start at the beginning when the bank button is pressed, for instance.
2. How do I tell which soft/firmware version IU have. I just got the machine so I figure its pretty recent, but who knows.
3. For the internal sounds, how do you/can you change the scale and root in the machine itself? I see that it can be done in the editor, but what use is that when the KP3 is primarily a live music tool?
4. Can the fx be active on only one sample at a time? If I have a loop with percussion on one pad, and other sounds on a second pad, I would most likely want to manipulate just one or the other. A subtle loop fx on the percussion, or something more aggressive on the other stuff while a percussion loop is playing as a backbone. Possible?
I will come up with some more questions most likely. I greatly appreciate any input or advice you all may offer!
